I have a hp 2200 all-in-one printer. For some

I have a hp 2200 all-in-one printer. For some reason it will not receive faxes now. I tried to send a fax from work to my home fax & I got a no answer error. I tried calling the number & all it does is rings (I don't get the fax noise). I am not sure what the problem is, any suggestions? Do you think I should take the printer in for service?

I took my fax machine in to have it checked & was told that it is working fine. I am not sure how to set it up for "automatic mode" but they tested it & said it is fine. But when I brought it home & hooked it up again it still does not woek. When I call the phone # it just rings & does not go to the fax mode. I have changed the phone cables but still nothing. Any other suggestions? I did change the settings back to the default settings.

I received your detailed instructions regarding my fax problem. Nothing is working. I printer is now working, so I can now print from the computer, but I still can't receive a fax. When I tried from work it said there was no answer. We have 2 separate lines. One is for the computer & home phone, the other one is for the fax line only. That is the line that the printer/fax/copier/scanner is plugged into. We are now thinking it may be the line itself, but we aren't sure. It would be nice to know for sure what the actual problem is, since the fax was working fine & now it isn't. Since we took it to the shop & they tested it & said it is working fine, I am really frustrated. Thanks for your detailed information. It really helps. Marla

If the phone line is not a dedicated fax line, you wouldn't get the "fax noise". You need to set the fax machine to 'pick up" after a designated number of rings (depending on if you want to let the answering machine pick up the call, pick up the call yourself, or let the fax machine get it).

If it sends ok, then it has probably been switched to "manual receive" form "automatic mode"

    Please provide exact model
    Ie: "Deskjet 2200", "PSC2200", etc.
    Having trouble identifying the machine.
With regards to the other comment/clarification, he's right, there may be a ring setting that you may want to set (but it probably already was/is). However, if it's plugged into ANY phone line, it will pick up on ANY call (assuming that auto receive is set)

These instructions came from Hp PSC 2200 manual. Since the machine checked out fine, the problem must lie in the setup. Follow the instructions to do a Basic Manual Setup.

receive a fax
Depending on how you set up your HP PSC, you can receive faxes
automatically or manually.
Your HP PSC is automatically set to print received faxes (unless you have
turned the auto-answer feature off). If you receive a legal-size fax and your
HP PSC is not currently set to use legal-size paper, the unit automatically
reduces the fax so that it fits on the paper that is loaded (unless you have
disabled the automatic-reduction feature). For more information, see set
automatic reduction
on page 43.
receive a fax
manually
Before manually receiving a fax to your HP PSC, we recommend that you
remove any originals from the glass, so they are not accidentally
processed.
1 Press Setup.
2 Press 3, then press 3 again.
This selects Basic Fax Setup, then selects Rings to Answer.
3 Press until No Answer appears on the front panel display.
4 Press Enter to accept the setting.
To receive a fax manually
1 When your HP PSC rings, pick up the handset of a telephone that is
on the same telephone line as your HP PSC, (the handset is plugged
into the back of the HP PSC).
2 Press Fax, if not already lit.
3 If you hear fax tones, do one of the following:
– Press Start Black or Start Color.
– If you are receiving from an extension phone (on the same
telephone line as your HP PSC, but not connected directly to it),
press 1 2 3 on your phone.
4 Wait for the fax tones, then hang up the telephone.
set number of
rings before
answering
You can specify how many rings should occur before your HP PSC
automatically answers the phone. (The default is 6 rings.)
If you do not want your HP PSC to answer the phone, Rings to Answer
should be set to No Answer.
40 use the fax features
hp psc 2200 series
1 Press Setup.
2 Press 3, then press 3 again.
This selects Basic Fax Setup, then selects Rings to Answer.
3 Press until the desired number of rings before answering appears
on the front panel display.
If you have an answering machine on this phone line (on any phone
number), set the answering machine to answer after fewer rings than
your HP PSC.
You want the answering machine to answer before your HP PSC. The
HP PSC monitors calls and will answer if it detects fax tones.
4 Press Enter to accept the setting.
5 If you have a modem on this phone line, turn off the setting in the
modem’s software that automatically receives faxes to your computer;
otherwise, your HP PSC will not receive faxes properly.

HELP ERROR 344 ON MY HP J4680 CANNOT SEND OR RECEIVE FAXES

Welcome to FixYa!

There are 4 reasons for Error 344 to occur when sending or receiving afax.
1. The remote machine failed to respond to a fax command from the local machinebecause the connection was interrupted. These errors can occur if the phonelines in the area to be faxed are old or there is noise (static on the phoneline). Other reasons can include power outages and other power-relatedproblems.

2. The call-waiting service can cause this error. The click, heard for anincoming call, is actually a momentary disconnect of the line.

3. The remote user pressed the Stop key while the reception was in progress.

4. Under rare conditions, incompatibility between the two machines might causethe remote machine to abandon the call.
Solution 1
Try to send a fax at a different time when telephone line conditions haveimproved.

Souliton 2
Try sending at a lower transmission speed.

Keep me posted and thank you for using FixYa!

Wont send message. Error no 442

This error indicates that the receiving machine (receiver) cannot receive the fax you just sent. The reasons might be unexpected shutdown of the machine (Receiver's machine) just before it completely received [or partially printed] the file you had sent or power failure during the process.
Another reason is, when we send color fax from Hp machine to another Machine (non-hp), this happens due to incompatibility issue.
Solutions are;
1. Restart both the machine after deleting the recently sent/received fax.
2. Send black and white only, not color.
3. Try again after the phone line seems not much busy which means when there's better transmission capability.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

5610 cannot send or receive fax

There are about a billion reasons you could be having this problem, the most common one being that you don't have a phone line plugged into the fax machine. You don't provide very much information about your problem or what you've tried up until now to solve it.

Fortunately, HP.com has a web page that should help you figure out what is going on:

Cannot Send or Receive Faxes

Let me know if this helps. If not, please post back with more information about the problem. Thanks.

Office jet all in one printer 4215

If you are using speed dial to dial the fax number, the HP Officejet
might be dialing too fast or too soon. To solve this problem, try one
of the following:
Try manually dialing the fax number from the HP Officejet front
panel, or from an attached phone. For information, see send a
fax using monitor dialing
on page 43 or send a fax manually
from a telephone
on page 43.
Re-create the speed dial setting and insert some pauses. For
information, see create individual speed-dial entries on
page 56.
If your telephone line has a PBX system, make sure you are dialing
the number for an outside line before dialing the fax number.
The receiving fax machine might be having problems. To check this,
try calling the fax number from a telephone and listen for fax tones.
If you cannot hear fax tones, the receiving fax might not be turned
on or connected, or a voice mail service could be interfering with
the recipient’s phone line.
