HP Pavilion 706n - can I place tower on it's side?

I have a small space and the only way I can now use my desktop computer is if I can put the tower on it's side .. is this ok or will it damage it? I looked through the entire owner's manual and nothing was mentioned.

Should'nt be a problem, just make sure you are not covering up any fan inlets or vents!

We have an HP Pavilion a1030n which locks up after it has been on for about 1/2 hour. We suspect it needs a new fan. Where is the best place to get one quickly?

You can check you suspicion by taking the side off the tower and see if the chip and/or tower fan (if equiped with 2 fans) and make sure all fans are turning at a pretty fast rate. If the components over heat, the computer will shut down to protect itself. The other issue could be a failing hard drive. Does your computer have any hardware diagnostic software available on CD maybe?

I recently placed my computer into storage. When I took it out and set it up, the CPU seemed to be running but there was nothing on the monitor and the keyboard didn't seem to be functioning. The mouse...

unplug the power cable of the CPU
press the power button for about 5-10 secs

open the tower and reseat the memory

it looks like this 8848bab.jpg

theres 2 white clips on each side press down the white clips until the memory pop out

check the memory if theres any dust and put it back the way it was before

push the memory back in with a small force until the 2 white clips snap in

hope this help

I am attempting to put 2 gigabytes of memory into Hp Pavilion a12

What is the Brand name and the model #? on most computers, you should be able to pull the panel on the side of the tower off. it is usually on the left side. Sometimes there is a tab in the back to pull or two screws in the back you remove in order to remove this panel. Once the panel is off, You should see one or more slots where the memory chip will fit in. On each slot, there will be a tab on each end. push the tabs away from the slot so that the memory chip will fit in the slot. After inserting the memory chip, the tabs should automatically close to lock the chip in. If they dont, make sure the memory chips are pushed in all the way and push the tabs in manually. Then put the panel back on the side and start the computer. Never do this while the computer is running! Also, If you have to use a screwdriver, DO NOT USE ONE THAT IS MAGNETIC!! this can really screw your computer up.

Tower will not turn on .

My first guess is to replace the power supply. These are fairly cheap and easy to replace. Unplug your computer. Just open the side of the computer (often the left facing you). The power supply is on the top which is plugged in. Remove the plug and locate 2 - 4 screws that hold it in place. Disconnect the main from the motherboard (remember where this goes for later). Install the new one and reconnect power. This is the most likely reason. If that fails, the motherboard may be dead. The green light flashing indicates that the internet is ready but has no power.
