No Sound & No Picture

When I go to turn my Philips 9P6031C 60 in. Rear Projection TV on the green light comes on, the speakers pop and there is a high pitch "wine" from inside the TV. There is no picture and no sound the "wine" is less then a seconded long. I have taken off the backing to see if I can place where the "wine" comes from but a only can get a general area. If you are looking in at the boards from the back of the TV it sounds like its coming from the back right. The only thing I can see in there (Besides a ton of dust) is a white cylinder with something connecting to the top squaring off and going down to the PCB. Any one know what is the cause of this failure?

I had the same issue. The screen would shrink and then expand over and over. After thrity minutes it would correct itself.
After a few months of doing this it just broke - no sound and no videe but the power light was still on.

I searched these forums but did not find clear instructions or kits on how to fix it. I gave up and called in a repair tech. He fixed my TV in less than 30 minutes.

To help others I documented the fix and created a repair kit and step by step quide on how to fix the problem. You can find it here. http://www.magnavoxhelp.com

Tv picture shrinks

This is a common problem on certain models of Philips Magnavox TV sets. The most common symptom is the screen will shrink and expand over and over. After the TV heats up for a while the video will work like normal. After a few weeks or months your TV will eventually stop working and not have video. You can get complete parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com

No pic. or sound but power light is on

Most likely the blue picture tube arched and shorted out the horzontal output transistor.Very common problem with this chassis. Now if you have an electronics background you can most likley fix it, if not you will be dealing with finding a high voltage leak consisting of 31,000 volts which can kill you. That pop you heard was the high voltage leaking to ground.

No picture no sound

most likely the horz output is blown and voltage regulator is shorted. I f you have a muti meter you could check if they are shorted that will tell me if the power supply is ok.

I beleve at this time you should be careful this is high voltage off of flyback is 30.000 volts

See if there is a local repair shop who charges cheap road calls. I think you are
looking around 295.00 to fix.

Popping sound and picture goes out

Sounds like the flyback or the picture tube. Either items can cause this. If the pop comes from the rear right side its the flyback. If the sound comes from the lower front behind the speaker grille its the tube. Let me know what you discover as I have access to any of the parts you would need.
