Look behind the dryer for a kinked or crushed vent. This is the main cause for long dry times. If the dryer is on an outside wall in the house, go outside to check the vent hood for blockage. Check inside the vent hood for a wasp or bee nest before reaching inside to remove the lint that may be keeping the flapper from opening fully.
If this does not solve the problem, refer to a qualified service technician to diagnose for internal problems.

Most likely to be either that the capacitor is defective which starts the motor slowly at first and then picks up speed or the drive belt is worn, usually this happens when the drum has clothes in it otherwise it looks as if it is operating normally

Are we talking tumble dryers here as it's been posted under the 'washing machine' section?
Anyway all depending on what type of dryer you have, normal vented one (with outlet hose that you stick out of the window) or a condenser dryer? Get back to me I may be able to help you with this ok, cheers, Ken.

The heater appears to be heating when drying but it takes 2 to 3 times to get a load dry? Thank you for the help. Scott Model 68712894

if your dryer feels hot inside and the drum tumbles then you have a blocked vent. check that the venting blows to the outside. do this test. unhook the vent behind the dryer, dry a load of clothing and if it dry on the first time then you know the house vent is clogged. cleaned or if you live in an appartment have maintenance clean.

Common faults -
1 The heating elements can fail(meaning open circuit)
2 There are cut-outs (T.O.C's) thatmight need resetting
3 The thermostats (stats) can tripout or burn out (meaning opencircuit)
4 Moderntumble dryers also have sensors and pcb's (Printed circuitboards) thesehaveprograms that can fail and circuitry although most should produce an errorcodeshowing you were the fault is.
5 Faultyconnections and burned wires may also bethe fault.

Clothes dryer

washer dryer and dryer ony machines differ in a huge way. the big diff. is the drums on each are completly different sizes. the conventional dryer has the bigger, giving better air flow and tumble to clothes. the w/d has a smaller drum thus less air flow and less tumble between clothes. the best way to see this effect is remove half the clothes after a wash and then select a drying cycle. u will see that by giving the clothes more room to tumble free of each other rather than tumbling in a large ball will dry them. washer dryers are really only a marketing tool.

no the steam from the dryer part comes out of outlet tube the same tube were the water comes out hotpoint washer/dryers use a condensing chamber which allows the steam to cool down a pass through it as water does and through the outlet pipe
