From the Start button, select menu/programs/accessories/system tools/system information, then click on the tools menu and select system configuration utility.

When the program opens, you'll see an advanced button on the bottom right corner. Press it.

Make sure you have disabled fast shutdown (CHECKED). Press OK/OK. If it prompts for restart, don't do it, you dont need to. Press cancel on that screen and then shutdown like you would normally.

Let me know if it works

Ok try Right-clicking on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab.
Under “Startup & Recovery,” click Settings. Under “System Failure,”
uncheck the box in front of “Automatically restart.”

After that ok it all and get back to me, I have one more far fetched solution up my sleave

Whenever i open my command prompt it always shutdown and sometimes it restart. what is happening with my pc. i can't make a configuration

check all other system utilities like msconfig or regedit...if it does restart or shutdown then your system is infected with some kind of virus .....all you have to do is install mcafee 8.5i enterprise version and update it to latest dat file and scan your system thoroughly. this might remove your virus but now you have to fix all corrupted files by running system file checker. go to run type sfc/SCANNOW........this will start checking all corrpted files. for this you need a win xp cd....do reply back

Computer restarts on shutdown

If your computer constantly restarts while you are using it, or if you are trying to shut down the computer after it has stopped unexpectedly, click to clear the Automatically restart check box. If you clear this check box, you receive an error message when the computer stops responding. This error message may describe the cause of the problem. You can also review the system log in Event Viewer to view the critical stop error that occurs when the computer restarts.

  1. Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
  2. Under System Failure, view the Automatically restart check box. If the Automatically restart check box is selected, Windows automatically restarts if the computer stops unexpectedly.
Thanks & Regards

Hi, You can try a couple of possible remedies: 1. If you're using Win98/SE, download shutdown fix from the Microsoft website; or 2. If Win XP, update your networking card drivers; and/or 3.
