Question about Acer Computers & Internet

PC hangs randomly

Spec:
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium , Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q8300 (2.5GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 1333 FSB), 3GB DDR II Ram, 640GB S-ATA HDD, DVD SuperMulti Double-Layer Drive with Labelflash technology, Nvidia GeForce 9600 Graphic Cards (768MB Dedicated RAM), Wireless LAN, Wireless Keyboard and Mouse, With 22'' LCD Monitor

Hi all, I need advises on solving the problem that i had been facing everyday. My PC hangs randomly, even on my 1st week of purchase. I had done a full recovery (reformat & installation of Win Vista) using the software Acer had provided, but it hanged even shortly after every drivers and programs had been installed.

Thus, there are no 3rd party programs and/or hardware installed which is why led to my frustration. Prior to the recovery, i took a look at the Event Viewer and found no error recorded, and the same goes for the minidump folder. Therefore, i am clueless about any possible conflict of the hardware/software that was pre-setup by the recovery disc.

However, in the Event Viewer, when the logs indicated an unexpected shutdown, it mention something about WMI.

That's so much i can provide.

Thanks in advance.

This may be problems inside your computer, for instance, your power supply could be bad or intermittent. This could cause this problem. Any loose connections or bad connections in the computer can also cause this problem. This could also be a hard drive problem, if the hard drive is not functioning correctly. This unit should be return for service and problem should be listed as intermittent hanging problems. This problem could also be a lot worse like a bad cpu chip or motherboard. All the service information should be in your owners manual. Hope this helps you with your problem.

I understand, and I appreciate your looking deep into both CPU's.

Are we talking about,
1) Intel Core2 Duo E6550, which has a maximum frequency rate, ('Speed'), of 2.33GigaHertz?

2) Intel Core2 Quad Q9550, which has a maximum frequency rate of 2.83GHz?

Don't know.

I just look at what motherboard chipset is used, then if it will support both a Dual Core, and a Quad Core; I look at the voltage range, and core technology/architecture.

Ha! So we are NOT talking an Intel CPU! (Processor)
Apparently not discussing a Gateway GT5692 Desktop PC, either.

What desktop computer are we talking about Virgil, and what is the motherboard chipset?

What type of dual core processor can I use for my dc7600?

The motherboard for the dc7600 has an Intel LGA775 processor socket. However, not all LGA775 processors are compatible with the motherboard. For the small form factor, the following CPUs are supported: Intel Celeron D Processors:
Intel Celeron D 331 Processor (2.66-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 336 Processor (2.80-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 346 Processor (3.06-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium 4 Processors with HT Technology:
Intel Pentium 4 521 Processor (2.8-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 524 Processor (3.06-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 541 Processor (3.2-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 620 Processor (2.8-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 630 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 631 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 641 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 650 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 651 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 661 Processor (3.6-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) or
Intel Pentium D Dual Core Processors:
Intel Pentium D 805 Dual Core Processor (2.66-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 820 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 915 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 925 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 930 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 940 Dual Core Processor (3.2-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 945 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 950 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

Unfortunately, these are old processors and I don't see any available new. Newegg.com lists a couple available as refurbished. You may be better off getting a new computer with either a Intel I3 or current AMD processor.

I wish that I had better news for you.

Cindy Wells
(do not attempt to use a CPU that your motherboard doesn't support. It probably won't boot.)

Need a new processor

http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_e1405?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&~section=specs#tabtop

Select Tech Specs:

Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T5500 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB) Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T5600 (1.83GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB) Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB) Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T7400 (2.16GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB) You can order the processor from Dell sales and then take it to a local computer shop like Fry's. And they can can install it for a good price. I normally would not recommend replacing a laptop processor unless you have done it previously several times.

1333 FSB processor ( E6850 ) on a 1066 FSB motherboard, DDR2 667 memory

Hi proenza. you're making good sence! You're D945GCL MB should be able to run 1066 FSB. Not 100% sure you're memory will keep FSB up to 1066.
Here's the trouble though. The Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 will not run on the Intel D945GCL motherboard because it is not supported. Look here at Intel's web site. Supported CPU's.
http://processormatch.intel.com/CompDB/SearchResult.aspx?Boardname=d945gcl

Intel E6850 specs sheet. http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Intel-Intel-Core-2-Duo-E6850-Processor-3-0GHz-4MB-Cache-1333MHz-FSB-Conroe-Dual-Core-OEM-Socket-77

Intel E6700 spec sheet. http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Intel-Core-2-Duo-E6700-2-67Ghz

This CPU is supported by the D945GCL MB.
http://processormatch.intel.com/CompDB/SearchResult.aspx?Boardname=d945gcl

Intel Core 2 Duo E4700 Processor BX80557E4700 - 2.60GHz.
$149.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3826343&CatId=2396

In order to get 1066MHz (CPU can run at), you'll also need the memory support at 800MHz. The D945GCL MB can only run DDR2-667MHz.
Many people buy a CPU to run MB's specs (1333MHz) just to find the same MB does not support DDR2-1066MHz or DDR2-800MHz. Motherboard Mfg's are lagging. DDR3-1333MHz is out there now to support the 1333 MHz CPU FSB.
http://www.lagoom.com/KINGSTON_1G_DDR3_1333MHZ_PC3-10667/KVR1333D3N9_1G/partinfo-id-580235.html

I hope this has helped you make a decision proenza.

Good Luck!

Mike
