OS installation problems

Hi i am trying to build a file server with these specification: Tyan s2865 MB Amd 64 3800 processor 2 GB Crucial ddr 400Mhz ECC 2 500 Gb Sata drives and of course a floppy drive and a dvd drive. my problem is that i cannot install any Win based OS, what happens is that after the normal boot, the win installation ( i have tried the win 2003 server which i need, and then also the XP to see if it would have worked)the win installation stops as soon as it is starting to copy the files on the Hdd. It reboots and the problem comes back everytime i try to install any OS win based. Any suggestion?

Need scsi/raid drivers on floppy to install winxp pro (at f6 prompt)

Hello the drivers can be downloaded here:

You need to unzip the file before you install the driver.
It should not be nessesary to install drivers before installing the windows system.
Check your bios boot settings to boot from the cdrom or dvd drive.
The cd or dvd drive must be the first boot device in order to boot from the windows disk.
Install windows with only one harddrive.
You can also add a harddrive later, when the installation is done and all drivers is installed.

Good luck

Hi, I am using mercury kvm266pm-u v3.0 motherboard with amd sempron 2200+ processor, ddr rams 256 and 512 mb, 80 gb IDe hard disc. But unfortunately I experienced a completely new problem. Yesterday It was...

Building the future of OpenSolaris, eh? Well, it could be many things; your power supply failed, or your videocard (if any) just got unseated a bit. The troubleshooting process is to simplify until it works (though I hate to clear the BIOS unnecessarily) and then build back up; I would remove the 256MiB DDR until I could boot and find out how sensitive the thing is to undervoltage, tighter and looser timing, etc. These things are easier to experiment on (on the case) if you are forcing the DDR voltage with a separate supply (or resistor) and probes (during which time you can hopefully boot USB flash and run memtest86!)

I have this ASUS P4GE-MX Motherboard. I want to upgrade my ram from DDR 256 MB TO DDR 1 GB. For temporary purpose, I tried another 256 DDR ram with 400 MHZ, but I had some problem with booting my system....

Hello, The Motherboard's specifications mention that it uses DDR Ram, while the FSB runs at 400MHz. That means that any kind of DDR memory will work up to the maximum of 2 GB (it has 2 slots, so it's up to the max of 2x1GB DDR sticks).
There's no issue with the speed, actually the faster you can get the better results you will have. Try looking for 1GB DDR 400MHz (preferably two of them, if you want to max out the capacity and since it's kind of cheap to do so).
The one you tried and didn't work, might be due to a faulty RAM module.

Cannot install any Windows OS system

My first course of action would be to isolate the problem. So what i would do is un hook one of the 500 gb Sata drives. Then try to install on one. Once you get it up and running hook the second one up and let windows find it. Also another note of thumb is make sure you have not over exceeded your ram slot capabilities. Find the techical manual on the manufactures web site. Each ram slot has a max amount and speed. If you exceed these it can cause windows programs to halt. I do think that if you isolate down to one sata drive install your os then add your second Sata you should be good to go. If you are still having problems feel free to contact me. TechWizard
