Fujitsu LifeBook S7211 DVD burner can't access CD

I'm using Fujitsu LifeBook S7211 for more than 6 months. It has windows vista home basic installed and no burner softwares installed. I was able to burn the discs from windows. But last week, when I tried to burn some CDs, one of the CDs was defective and windows said it couldn't format the disc and so I removed the disc. But after that, the drive did no longer recognize any type of CD. It doesn't know that there's a CD in the drive. But it can still read or write DVDs of any type. What's the problem. Is it a hardware problem or is there anything I can do apart from replacing the drive. Please help me.

    Thanks csicomputers for your reply.

    Device Manager shows no error and it says that the drive is working properly but when I ran hardware diagnostic test provided by Fujitsu, the drive failed all the tests for CD but it passed all the tests for DVDs. Uninstalling and re-installing the driver for the drive didn't help either.

    Is there any other thing I can do?

It may be one of the optics on the drive that has gone away, if so replacing the drive is the way to go. Most of the time you can get one off of eBay for around $30 or so.

If the drive is showing an error (or is missing) in device manager, do the following:

Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click O.K)
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.

Hope this helps

    Not that I know of, I think that the drive may have died. It is possible that it is a windows problem. If you have a bootable cd (win 98 or xp install) see if it will boot from a cd. If not I would suggest getting a new drive, if it does boot then reinstalling windows should fix it.

Windows XP and Vista have built-in support for reading/writing CD/DVD disks -- you don't need a "device-driver" at all.

If you want FREE software to make it easier to collect files and burn CD/DVD disks, access http://www.MajorGeeks.com
and download 'AShampoo Burning 6', and install it.

How can I remove S7211 BIOS password

Find the original sales-receipt, to prove that you, and not a thief, is in possession of your laptop. Telephone Fujitsu, and ask for Technical Support -- once they verify that you are the owner, they can remove the BIOS-password.

Fujitsu Lifebook N6470 will not boot

Most times these kinda errors are issue with some kinda corrupted driver. Have you tired to boot in to safe mode. To do so shut down the laptop and when you press power to turn it on start tapping F8 key until advanced windows start up shows up.If you cant i would consider taking it back to store where you got it since pressing this button is not supposed to do anything. Most new computers come with Operating System reinstall built in which kinda sucks since some times you just cant get to it like in your case. Restore disk shoud work and you can try making Bios settings back to original since Vista will boot to the CD/DVD drive if it detects media. If this does not work i would not spend too much time on it and would replace it or have it fixed if you have extended warranty. I would also be very careful about posting Product key on any web sites. Hope this helps.

Fujitsu Lifebook P1120 Won't Boot To CD\DVD

Fujitsu seems to have secretly added a Hardware black list for Booting USB DVD-rw.CD-rw drives.

I have a Stylistic ST5032D slate.

Your either going to have to buy fujitsu's over priced external drive or buy fujitsu's over priced dock.

Or What I do is Bought WinImage or any other software that allows writing a ISO image to USB flash drive, this should almost always work.

I had to install Windows 7 on my tablet this way.

Choose your poison.

Good Luck.
