Hi everyone i am trying to build a file server with these specification: Tyan s2865 MB Amd 64 3800 processor 2 GB Crucial ddr 400Mhz ECC 2 500 Gb Sata drives and of course a floppy drive and a dvd drive.
my problem is that i cannot install any Win based OS, what happens is that after the normal boot, the win installation ( i have tried the win 2003 server which i need, and then also the XP to see if it would have worked)the win installation stops as soon as it is starting to copy the files on the Hdd. It reboots and the problem comes back everytime i try to install any OS win based.
Any suggestion?

- Hi techwizard, Thank you very much for your fast response.... I have to tell you that at the end i solved the problem; it was not anything like Hard drives also if as you explained it to me it could also have worked. The problem is that also if the MB is supporting ECC RAM it looks like at the end it doesn't. I've tried to change the RAM and put some non ECC on it and...... IT WORKS...!!!
My first course of action would be to isolate the problem. So what i would do is un hook one of the 500 gb Sata drives. Then try to install on one. Once you get it up and running hook the second one up and let windows find it. Also another note of thumb is make sure you have not over exceeded your ram slot capabilities. Find the techical manual on the manufactures web site. Each ram slot has a max amount and speed. If you exceed these it can cause windows programs to halt. I do think that if you isolate down to one sata drive install your os then add your second Sata you should be good to go. If you are still having problems feel free to contact me. TechWizard

I just finished building my home entertainment pc last night, hooked it up to my 52'' Hitachi 1080i through a gold plated DVI. The nvidia control panel recognized my tv and listed specific settings and even the part number for my tv. Unfortunately, the screen was a complete blur. After hours of tinkering with the display settings I made little progress. In order for me to decipher ANY of the icons or text on my screen, I have to lower the reso to the 720i range, but it's still impossible to read, I just know what the blurry little icons are by memory. I put The Dark Knight bluray disc in and played it...two words; BLOWN AWAY! The picture was amazing, HD surround with logitech speakers was outstanding. I don't know how the movies can be so perfect, but I can't use this pc for anything else. I also know that the picture quality will improve for the bluray if I can get the resolution set to 1080i. I don't know what to do to make this work right. I've read about setting ratios to 1:1, but I didn't find anything in the settings for that. Also, when the reso is set to the highest setting, the movies stutter from frame to frame; i'm guessing the refresh rate of the tv (60Hz) might not be high enough to support the reso. here's the pc specs. EVGA 730a mobo w/ nvidia chipset (DVI, HDMI outs) nvidia HD Audio 7.1 onboard w/ realtek controller AMD Phenomx4 agena 4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 Plextor BluRay-RW/DVD-RW/CD-RW sata DVI to 52'' Hitachi 1080i HDTV
