Your Hard Drive may have failed. to be sure. enter setup (F2) then run the hard drive diagnostic utility. a scan can take up to an hour or more and will tell you if your hard drive has failed. if it has you will need to replace it and reinstall your operating system

Turn on Inspiron 1300 and get 'No bootable devices-strike F1 to retry boot. F2 for setup. Tried F1 no help

First off, if you have a floppy disk drive, make certain that there is no disk in the drive. If not, then do the same for a CD or DVD drive. Make sure they are also empty.
If all are empty, and you still get this message, then it is a safe bet that your hard disk has failed. It is possible that the disk controller failed, though, so if you can find a way to try that hard disk in a different computer, do so. If it works, then it is your disk controller, and that is usually on the motherboard.
But you can buy a disk controller that will fit into an expansion slot on the mother board, and allow you to override the original one. That being said, follow all instructions, and see if you can then get the computer to boot with the original hard disk.
Good luck,
-a.

Won't turn on

No bootable device usually means that your hard drive has failed. It is either not connected properly to the computer or the drive needs to be replaced.

My dell inspiron b130. says no bootable devices and strike f1 to retry boot. f2 for setup utility. but nothing happens just repeats sentence over and over

It may be that your hard disk is shot - or its connectors may have come loose or slightly corroded. Remove the hard disk and then reseat it back again. Good luck.

Can't factory restore dell inspiron 531 (windows xp).

You might want to try going into setup and setting your boot drive options to DVD drive as your 1st, HD as 2nd and Floppy as 3rd. Put your windows disk in the DVD before boot and run the program from DVD.
