This is an ol Acer travelmate 290. It quite suddenly starts skipping back at random while typing text ( like now !) to re position the cursor back a few lines ( so i find myself typing in the middle of stuff i've already typed!).
Its irritating to say the least. A solution will be appreciated.

Re: Cursor skips lines while typing
Reinstall the touch pad drivers restart the computer and that should fix the issue. If still the issue is not fixed, check when you tap in the palm rest does the cursor jump around, replace the touch pad.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Even though you may not actually ever contact the touchpad while typing, many laptops have the flat ribbon cable that connects to the motherboard under at least a portion of the keyboard. This can cause the touchpad to think it's been activated and make the cursor jump when keys are struck.
Here's a really simple little application called "Touchfreeze"you can install that automatically disables the touchpad ONLY when you are typing. If it does not solve your problem, at least it will have no effect on your computer in any negative way.
Before you're hasty to leave a negative rating for this response, keep in mind that this program may help hundreds of others who view this post. I've seen it cure end many people's woes who weren't actually touching the touchpad.
this sometimes happen in a laptop where the touchpad is unawarely hit causing the cursor to transfer location. that is why the typing is pointed to other location in the document. please make sure that your workspace is not having any of this same scenario
My experience: cursor suddenly moving backward when i was typing, or moving somewhere else on the page. I would be typing and text suddenly would get highlighted. I followed someone's advice to disable the touch pad. Since I do have a mouse & key pad that was all i had to do.
HOW TO DISABLE THE TOUCHPAD FOR ACER 3680 AND OTHERS??? PRESS Fn +F7
Yep, it was that simple. At first I made sure i typed without my fingers or palms touching or near the touchpad. I noticed it seemed to stop or happen less. Soon as I disabled the touch pad all is back to normal. Yet I spent hrs trying to find out how and there were all these posts by people suggesting downloads and other more complicated things etc..
