Low battery

I have a FinePix S9500 digital camera which is in great condition (virtually brand new) but is basically useless. Despite using the appropriate fully charged batteries, the display constantly indicates low battery. I manage to get out one or two shots and then it shuts down altogether. This is very frustrating as you cannot count on the camera working at all. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or is there a particular brand of battery that works for this model. Unfortunately, because of the battery problem my camera has had very little use and is now out of warranty.
