Question about Intel Motherboard

1 Answer

GA-MA74GM-S2 this is my first build......I bought this motherboard and installed all the equipment.  I bought new RAM (corsair XMS 2 800 Mhz) 2 GB fot four total.  I bought a quad core AMD 9950 and new heatsink and fan. When I go to start up the system.  It starts then just clicks.  I tried to reseat the RAM many times.  I tried to reset the CMOS.  I tired one stick of the RAM, then the other.  The video screen is black and the system just clicks consistantly. I got into windows twice and the procssor and RAM both appeared, but when i restarted i would just get the clicking sound,  I am at wits end!

Is this a brand-new motherboard, still replacable under warranty,
or a "well-worn" motherboard, with one or more capacitors that are either bulging or leaking, when you visually take a close inspection of the motherboard?

Motherboards

Hi,

Can buy DDR2700 (333) Corsair XMS RAM - it is not alot more expensive but considerably higher quality than run-of-the-mill generic RAM.

The Radeon 9700 is a very good choise of card and it is not overly expensive - and everyone else will recommend it

Personal opinion.

Thanks.

I have installed 1 GB + 512 MB DDR II RAM, but it read only 1G I have just bought the Corsair 1GB RAM (DDR II 667 MHz, 6400), and installed it in the slot 1 of my motherboard, but it only read as 512 MB. (...

Nowadays, motherboards supports only a selected number of RAMs. You have to read the manual and select from the given models. I am not talking about DDR2 or 667MHz. The manual will state the manufacturer (ex. Kingston) model no (KVR667XXXXXX) etc. Only those stated in the manual will work correctly with your motherboard.
