The problem is either the switch that controls the solenoid for the hot water valve, or the solenoid itself. Place finger on the solenoid coil and press switch if the solenoid is working you will feel the nucleus when it engages. If both switch and solenoid are working then the pipe connected to the solenoid from the boiler is clogged.

Zero steam from steam wands. No pressure.

First thngs first, make sure knob is turned to 2, then make sure there is water in the boiler, then turn machine to 0, remove back panel and reset thermostat on top of back boiler, if your machine has that feature installed. Then turn machine to 2, open one of the steam wands, If within 10 minutes boiler does get hot or there is no water bubbles, from steam wand, then the pressure stat might be damaged and needs to be replaced.

Ok...I got heat. Hot water from wand. Steam from wand. Machine is cleaned 2 times a year with decalcifier. Screen cleaned every other month. Now...espresso come straight thru like there is no pressure...

The pressure is from zero to the opening pressure of the OPV. This should be about 10 bar when the OPV is cold. When the OPV is hot, the OPV spring is hot and a little more flexible. The OPV opens at about 8.5 bar when hot.

When the wand valve is open, you can get a lot of steam or water with not a lot of pressure in the boiler.

Take the lid off the reservoir and watch the hose from the OPV. It's the short hose.
Pull a shot with less than usual coffee in the basket.
If you see water flowing from the hose, the OPV opened.
If it did not open and there is little extract in your cup, buy a new pump.

Why does steam wand on dualit espresso leak

The wand can leak if the rocker switch is not in the UP position.

In MIDDLE position it will try to deliver hot water.

In DOWN position it will try to deliver steam.

The thermoblock in this unit is actually a 3-way valve, of which two positions route water from the boiler directly to the wand. The 3rd position (UP) routes hot water (but not steam) from the boiler to the group head.

Try holding the switch in the UP position by hand when making coffee. If the machine still pushes water through the wand then you will have to replace the switch inside the machine that is activated by the rocker, or the valve it operates.

Please let me know how it goes.

I have had similar issues with my 40729.
Assuming that when you turn on the steam switch, the steam light goes on and then off when up to temp:
I have resolved this by filling my steaming pitcher with boiling water, remove the end-cap from the frothing wand and soak the end of the steam pipe in the hot water for several minutes. Then fire up the steam and blow it out. if the obstruction is more serious, then you may need to unplug the machine and run a thin and stiff wire ( like a guitar string ) up through the wand to break up the clog.

This unit uses one heater for both the extraction and the steam, so if you are getting extraction then the heater is good. You may also have either:
  • a bad needle valve in the steam knob on the right.
  • a bad thermostat that regulates the heater temp when you turn on the steam switch.

Steam wand shooting water instead of steam

You're supposed to wait for the blinking light to go solid before attempting to steam your milk!
Until then, the water isn't hot enough (it's at coffee-brewing temp, not steaming temp) to produce steam.
Further, after steaming, the water is too hot for coffee's correct brewing temp, and the light again blinks until it has cooled down enough, if you care.
