How long did you have it for? Did you buy it new? on average 3% coming out of manufacturer is malfunctioning. You could have gotten one from that 3%. I recommend you return the keyboard where you got it and before you leave the store with the new one, try it in front of the salesman.

What is the problem why the arrow keys functioning differently.

Disconnect and reconnect your computer keyboard, then restart your computer.

Sometimes a poor connection can result in keys not working on your keyboard

Update the device driver for your keyboard by going to the manufacturer's website of your keyboard, and then download and install the latest driver matching the brand and model number of your keyboard.

Disconnect your keyboard from your computer and inspect the pins in the keyboard connector if you have a PS/2 connector.

The PS/2 connector for your keyboard has six pins, which connect into a PS/2 port of your personal computer, to allow for communication to and from your keyboard.

Straighten any bent pins you may find, by gently using a ballpoint pen.

You must replace your keyboard if you see broken pins.

Try testing your keys using a different application, such as another word processing program. Keys like the function keys on your keyboard labeled F1 through F12 may not work in one application but will work fine in another.

Clean Under Desktop Keys

Disconnect your standard desktop keyboard, then press down on a key not working.

Slip a car key or a flathead screwdriver underneath the key.

Twist the screwdriver or car key until the keyboard key pops off.

Use a damp cloth, moist cotton swabs or compressed air to remove dust, hair, and food crumbs under the key.

Use only water or rubbing alcohol to moisten the cloth and cotton swabs---other cleaners can damage the plastic of your computer.

Position and press down on the key to snap it into place.

Repeat this for all of the keys to clean underneath them, if necessary.

hope this helps

Compaq CQ60 some keys not working

The keyboard maybe faulty.
Connect an external keyboard to youe laptop and if all the key work on this keyboard then most like the laptop keyboard is faulty.
If this external keyboard also malfunctions then the keyboard controller chip on the laptop motherboard is faulty and it would not be worth repairing as this is an old model laptop.

Shift key not working

You have 2 Shift keys on the keyboard. If the other shift key is working then the shift key that is not working is defective. You should consider replacing the keyboard on your laptop. There is no setting on Windows that can disable the shift key.

**Note : If both Shift keys are not working, Try to check if sticky keys feature on windows is on. Sticky keys should be disabled. To disable sticky keys, Click on start and Go into control panel > Accessibility Options, and under keyboard there is sticky keys. Remove the tick and click apply and OK.

**If "Use Sticky Keys" is unchecked, that means sticky keys is disabled.

Keyboard

No keys on my keyboard work. Cause: This issue is often caused by either a bad keyboard, bad interface board, and/or bad motherboard.
Answer: Disconnect the keyboard from the computer and connect another known working keyboard to it. If this is a PS/2 keyboard and connecting multiple keyboards or a known working keyboard to the computer PS/2 port does not work unfortunately it's likely that the PS/2 port is bad. Because this port is part of the motherboard this will require that you replace the motherboard. Alternatively if replacing the motherboard is too costly or not an effective solution you could also consider using a USB keyboard if USB ports are available on the computer.

Not all keys on keyboard work.

Reference number: CH000305
Not all keys on keyboard work. Issue: Not all keys on keyboard work.
Cause: This issue is often caused by a bad keyboard or software preventing these keys to be pressed.
Additional information: This document contains information about troubleshooting a keyboard that has some functioning keys. If no key on the keyboard is working see document CH000955.
Solution: Verify that the key is not working in more than one application. It is possible that some keys may not be used in all programs. This generally always applies to the Function keys F1 through F12. If not all keys are working in all programs and you have Windows, attempt to boot the computer to a MS-DOS prompt or safe mode and test the keyboard in DOS. Information about getting into safe mode can be found on document CHSFAFE and information on how to boot to DOS can be found on document CHDOS. If it appears that a substance has been spilt into the computer, please review document CH000303. If all above suggestions have been completed or if you are not running Windows, it is likely that the keyboard and/or keys are bad and it is recommended that the keyboard be replaced with a new one.
