Is it possible to adjust the chain break & how to do it.

I have a Homelite 45cc chainsaw, model ut10942a , made August 2003. Is it possible to adjust the chain break. The only way it will totally release is if I pull the chain break release bar back toward the hand grip & hold it there. Right now I have it wired to the hand grip but I know that is not a safe proceedure but it works for now. Can you help. Thanks.

Hate to say this, but, there is no way to adjust the tension on the brake band.either the spring is weak or the brake band is broken.either can be changed but it's not easy.spring is under a lot of tension and can fly out when taking it apart or installing, you can get the entire cover as a unit if so desired...hope this helps, let me know

I have the same saw and the same thing just happened with it.
I removed the chain brake handle and found that a flat spring steel part had one end broke off.
Its not the brake band but another spring.
I found the part # online (PS04955) but still have to find one and see where the broken missing end fits in the brake.Hope this helps. If you like I could send a parts list showing the part.

I need a manual for a Homelite chainsaw Where is

Hi calwolfe...
Go to the following website and download your manual, if it is among the list.
You did not get me a model so I did not have much to work with to find your user manual for your chainsaw.
Please take time to rate me

Unit runs great. I beleive I am getting too much bar oil from the chainsaw. There is bar oil dripping from under the cover where the bar connects to the unit. Is there an adjustment for this? I have...

There is no control on how much oil is sent to the chain.
You should be using about a tank of oil to a tank of Gas
Things to check Are you using Chain and bar oil or regular oil
Chain and bar oil is thicker and has additives to make the oil stickier. regular oil is thinner and tends to run out of the saw when you are not using it.
If you are using correct oil and using to much sounds like the oil pump needs to be replaced

I have a Homelite Chainsaw 45cc Power Stroke. Model No. UT10946D. The chain brake is always applied. Brake lever will not latch in the released position. I've disassembled it and do not see anything...

I have the same model (ut10946d) and used it for less than 2 tanks of gas when the chain froze. I noticed it was slowing down and it seemed like the chain brake was not disengaging and staying in the "unlocked" position.
I took the tool apart today and found that the band that rubs on the clutch to stop the chain was dragging on the clutch because it doesn't disengage all the way. The heat from the friction melted the plastic parts around the clutch housing and crankshaft. So now I have a chainsaw that I bought new, used for less than an hour, and is now junk due to poor design and/or product control.

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HOMELITE GAS POWERED TOOL AS LONG AS I LIVE. THEY ARE PURE JUNK!

My solution, call homelite and complain about it, maybe they'll stand behind their design flaws - but I doubt it.

Go to the Homelite web site, which will get you to HCPI Electronics Parts catalog. You will need the model number. The parts are illustrated as a break-away drawing for various portions of the saw. Hope this helps.
