Question about Dell E173FP 17" LCD Flat Panel Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor Screen goes black seconds after turn on-

Dell Model E193FP LED Monitor Screen - Booting up shows dell logo, start up screen, then goes black. Power led stays green. Pressing power button to off, then back on shows screen briefly, then goes black again. Leaving on for a while, then shutting off and back on sometimes gives me a few more seconds of picture, then black again.I read where others are saying to change certain bulging or discolored capacitors that may be bad. I can handle this if necessary but have no idea on how to open the case on this monitor. There are no screws to remove other than the stand holder so there must be snap catches somewhere to pry open, but where and how?
Would appreciate any ideas on what to try in order to get this rascal up and running again! Thanks; ****

Hi Kiel 123 - In answer to your question..... I have tried it on 3 different computers with same results.Something is wrong with the monitor but haven't figured out what it is or what steps to take. Process of elimination I guess. Strangely tho, a while ago I played with it turning it off and on several times, then all of a sudden it stayed on for more than an hour so I thought I had somehow pressed the magic button, but after shutting down and re-starting...no dice..right back to going black in just a few seconds.Haven't been able to do this again, so still need help! Thanks: ****

I'm experiencing the same problem right now. I just had a power outage too. I had this problem once before and fixed it, but I can't remember how (or maybe it just fixed itself... don't remember). I'm sure I didn't replace any monitor components. I'll post if I figure it out.

I ended up fixing my problem, but I'm not sure what the solution is. I had some faulty electrical equipment that I was using to power the monitor (220V to 110V converter and a bad power strip) and I got rid of them. I was using the converter because I moved to Israel and I thought I needed to feed the monitor only 110V, but I now realize that the power cord for the monitor has a built-in converter that accepts 220V input. Now the monitor is plugged directly into the wall and is working fine. Try using a different power source (maybe the wiring or plug you're using is faulty). Good Luck!

My dell laptop keeps going back and forth from the loading logo screen to black screen

You might like to Power it off completely by removing the Battery for a few seconds.
If that doesn't help, try booting from your Win7 Installation Disk.

I tried to clean the dell vostro 1014 fan, after i assembled the fan and turned on the laptop it appear black screen with dim image on my laptop screen, When I plug in external monitor it shows boot s

It sounsd like your GPU may be BGA chip and would require a re-flow/re-ball if your laptop shows graphical distortion on both monitors.

However I would first try taking the laptop apart again and double check you have connected everything properly.

My dell monitor will only turn on for a few seconds then it goes black. it doesnt turn of it just goes black and I can keep doing it and it will keep going black.

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

The screen goes very dark within a minute after booting up = I can just barely see the menu page

When you say screen goes very dark when it booted to windows so it means that when you turned on the laptop when the dell logo flashes the screen was fine? if thats the case could you please try this. after turning on the laptop you will see the dell logo flashes immediately keep tapping on F2 and then it will show you the BIOS setup utility, please check if in BIOS setup display goes dark as well. If yes then try this, after turning on the computer when dell logo flashes keep tapping on F12 to boot menu then select utility partition to run the diagnostics. Please run test on the LCD check if display goes black when running the LCD test. Then try this when you sees the dell logo keep tapping on F8 to boot in safe mode check if in safe mode display goes very dark. Try this too, boot in F8 then select last known good configuration check if the settings on your display will be fix. If you can boot to safe mode no problem then uninstall the display or video driver. then restart computer.
You can also try to connect an external monitor if you have one just try to isolate if issue is on the LCD or the video card. If the display is dark as well in external monitor then video card needs to be reseated if fails then replaced. In situation like this most video cards is integrated to the motherboards. So replace motherboard.

Seems to be a very common problem with this screen. Im taking one apart as we speak to try to discover the problem. In the mean time - check that the Power Input isnt loose, and you can wiggle it around. Usually means the power is arcing onto the board

Dell Computer Monitor - Black Screen

If it worked on a computer at the IT person, it is most likely a faulty graphics card in your computer. You may want to get that checked out.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

If tried the monitor on two other computers with the same result -- definitly your monitor is faulty. Take it to the repair shop. To make double sure, run your computer with another monitor. If everything is fine now; you can blame the monitor.

Dell e193FPc monitor

The backlight or inverter may be bad. With the monitor on and the room dark, hold a flashlight very close and shine it on the screen . If you can see the normal display the monitor is OK but the backlight or the inverter which provides proper voltage to the backlight has gone bad.

Unplug the cable from your PC, if the monitor shows a test image, the monitor is fine and the problem is with your graphic card. If you dont see nothing on-screen after unpluging the cable from the PC, then the monitor in damaged. Send it to repair.
