Hi there,

Better to update the colorado firmware to fix the certain problem on your unit.

Updates & Downloads Colorado 300 software version 2.90
Download (3.46 MB)
Installation Instructions

  1. Download the self-extracting archive file for your Colorado onto your hard drive.
  2. Connect your Colorado to a free USB port on your PC with the correct PC interface cable.
  3. Allow your Colorado to initialize and enter USB mode.
  4. Unzip the files in the archive by running the downloaded executable file.
  5. Follow the instructions provided by the launched update application on your computer.

First you'll also need to download file below. Once you've downloaded this file unzip it into a directory such as C:\Garmin on your PC.

On your PC click the Start menu, select "Run..." and type "cmd" where it says open. A black window with a DOS command prompt should appear. At the command prompt enter the following command:

> cd c:\Garmin
At the next command prompt type the following command without hitting enter:

> Updater.exe 066101000230.rgn
Now back to your GPS.

Press and hold the "up button" on the Rock'n Roller while you plug the CO into the USB cable. Wait 10-20 seconds while still holding the "up button". You should see a Garmin banner and nothing else. At this point you can hit enter on your PC to execute the updater command. Once the updater runs you will need to select you Colorado under USB and hit enter. This should perform the update (you may get a warning about loading an older version of software). You should receive a message that the update was successful and the Colorado will reboot.

Once the reboot is complete the "Loader" banner should appear near the top of the CO screen after about 30 seconds. Release the "up button" and on your PC you should be able to see the Colorado as a USB drive.

You can now attempt to fix the files on your Colorado which are preventing it from starting. If you've recently added or changed files these are good places to start. Deleting gpx files and/or replacing map img files with your backup copies may resolve the issue as well.

I turn my Colorado 300 on, it starts, but dies while loading maps. Like the batteries were out, but they are new.

Hi, It seems to be backup battery on PCB. You have to replace it. It is very frequent defect for CO which was made, same battery there were used by Garmin was defect - shorter life time. Jean

My garmin colorado starts up with the logo of Garmin than nothing Not with a hrd reset neither with a soft reset I can only switch off when the batteries are taken out so start with wheel button pushed...

Hi, if USB connection is OK, you have to make hard reset after that download firmware 3.40 by Uploader (no Garmin WebUploader). Your Co will startup but your data will be lost. Jean

I have deleted pre loaded maps in my gps colorado 300. How do I reset.

If the maps are deleted they are gone! Contact Garmin and ask them to replace the maps. There is no way of resetting deleted maps.
