You must safely remove hardware before disconnecting the device from your MAC. Find the device on your desktop, click on it and press CMD+E or press eject button on you keyboard. Then it will be safe to disconnect the camcorder.

IMovie 09 / Mac OS X will not recognise Sony DCR-HC35 via firewire or USB? Do I need to download the correct driver?

mac doesn't support usb streaming so that leaves us with firewire. it should be a plug-and-play connection. no need to install any kind of driver for the camcorder (but try to check if there are any available driver updates for the firewire card).if possible try to check if your computer firewire port is working by using other devices.your imovie software should detect the camcorder once connected.if not, disconnect cam, open imovie, and connect again.if still doesnt,RESET camcorder.if still the same try restarting computer with cam connected and powered on.check if you have a dv in indicator on your screen.check if firewire cable connection is secured.try diff ilink cable if available.if still no go, try a diff computer. if everything fails might also be a service issue.hope this helps.tnx:)

Apple help

If you entered a password hint when you created the user account on your computer, then you can view the hint after entering an incorrect password. If not, and you have your original Apple restore disks, then you can reset your password by starting up from the cd. Put the CD into the drive and restart the computer by holding down the C key on your keyboard. When the computer restarts, click the Installer menu item at the top of the screen, then click Reset Password. Set the new password , then restart and voila, you're done.

After downloading Firm software update and shut down, comp gives whirring sound and didnt reboot - no picture on screen.

Place the system restore cd in the drive and restart. Hold down the C key til you see can tell it it restarting from the Cd. Once the screen to restore comes up, press the esc key... go to the top of the screen see the menus... choose the first aid utility. run an first aid diagnostic. choose repair if diagnostic finds issues... After you finish with the repair. quit and restart. Hold down the eject key while restarting. Remove restore CD.
let computer continue to restart. See if it gets beyond the whiring sound and if it boots up correctly.

Let me know if this does not work.
