Hello, I bought a new Kenmore toaster and when I opened it up and removed all the packing material it had a very strong chemical oder. So rather than try and make toast with it I ran it through several cooking cycles to see if it would burn off. This smell is really toxic smelling. I am really concerned as to whether or not we should eat anything cooked in this toaster. and yes, I did remove all the packing material completely. This fould smell is now all over my house. this is really sad that a brand new appliance will smell like that. Especially for cooking with. It is made in fricking China. It does not surprise me though,. Could not find a single toaster made in the USA. So Sad.
I would say return the toaster. No telling what kind of fumes would get into your toast -- toasted bread is like charcoal -- it'll absorb a lot of stuff.
