Hi,
I am having a problem with a Sharp AR-M355
backing up toner in the process unit and making a grinding noise in the process.I have replaced the process unit only to have the noise and toner backing up all over again.

- I have replaced the process unit which includes these gears but after a short run the backing up and noise returned
I'm assuming your a tech. This is an issue with some copiers running the older firmware. There is a firmware update that addresses this issue. it is available on sharps website, bulletin mfp-sb-152 explains it. Have you had any problems with backgrounding on the copier ? this is one symptom.
The sound you are hearing is probably the hopper gear skipping. It generally indicates blockage. Check the entire path of the toner and check for caked toner. It will be messy but usually if you get the hard toner out your good to go unless a drive gear has been stripped further in.
