Troy bilt lawn mower. Will not engage self propell, front wheels

The handle that I normally grasp to engage the self propell has no tension. I checked the handle and everything is hooked up fine there. Taking the cover off of the front of the mower I noticed the cable for the self propell is snapped, I think. I'm not sure what it was connected to, but I do know that I can pull the cable back and forth. Unable to find a diamgram on how the cable should be attached. Any help would be appreciated. Can't afford a repairman right now and with all this damn rain my grass is going to be 3 feet tall in a couple of days. Thanks!

Hi John, my Troy-Bilt self propelled lawn mower has a loose V-belt that I need to replace. It didn't snap but it did slip off and I was able to get it back on the pulley. But now it's too loose. How do I get the new belt on? There doesn't seem to be and easy access to the pulley.
I have an authorized Troy-Bilt repair place nearby, they charge $75 per hour. I'd rather do it myself if I can.
I read online about the 2005 V-Belt recall problem & wondering if this is part of it. I do have the receipt. Thanks so much.

Hello:

Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine and the Mower Model Numbers, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Engine Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. The Mower Model Numbers are Usually Located Under the Seat on a Sticker on the Body of the Mower.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy.
>>Thanks.

Respectfully

John

Selfpropelled portion stopped working, replaced broken belt, have correct p/n for new belt, belt is slack ,self propelled not working

There should be 3 pulleys one on the motor on top of the blade, one on the axle for the wheels and one that goes to your cable to engage that pully and tighten the belt, take the cover off that hides the axle and pull your handle for the self propell and see if its tighting, some mowers have a little adjuster to tighten the cable on the self propell handle or even on the cable itself, did you make sure to run the belt between the guides over the blade, let me know what you find so we can further help

Troy-bilt self-propelled won't engage drive

Make sure the drive belt that turns the wheels is in good working order as well. It may have detached.

How do you remove the gears on a front wheel self propelled troy bilt push mower?

Take the front tires off, pull gears and take out pins, put tires back on and you have a "non-self propell" mower.

Front wheels lock up when pull mower backwards

Typically self-propelled mowers are propelled using the front wheels, which only turn forward. Pulling the mower back while the front wheels are turning will damage the drive gears. It's best to raise the front wheels slightly off the ground before pulling back.
