Ignition solenoid, Get a new one, and replace your ground! You all set! might want to look at the main switch.
Sounds like the solenoid is getting old and current is getting to it, if that No work.. Call a priest! lol
Good luck and let me know how it turns out!

My Dell Optiplex GX270 continues to go into power saver mode.

It turns itself off when there is something wrong with it. You can check the system events from the bios menu why it does that. When it doesn't boot at all check the abcd lights at the back.

Dell gx270 power switch

I don't think you need a new switch. The power "switch" on the front of computers today is a momentary action push button switch. Not a locking or clicking switch as older computers used to have.

Many of today's computers, including the gx270 / gx280 computers from Dell are really always on. You can see the green or yellow LEDs on the motherboards glow when they are "off" (like a sleep mode).

They are in a "sleep" mode until you push the power switch, which sends a momentary signal off to the motherboard to fully power up and turn itself "on".

I think you have something else happening here. When the system tries to power itself up, and detects a severe problem, it will try to automatically turn itself off.

The problem could be a bad motherboard, power supply, memory or processor. It could even be a failed hard disk that is drawing too much power (shorting out) from the supply.

If you had done something to the system, like move it or open it up for an upgrade, etc.. Look again at all the internal connections, and make sure there is nothing rattling around inside that might also be causing a short.

You could try removing all the PCI cards in the system, removing the power and data cable connections from all the disks (Floppy, Hard Disk, CD/DVD) and see if the bare motherboard (with CPU and memory) will boot by it self. If it does boot, then the problem was somewhere in those items and you can replace them one at a time until you find the problem, or if it all works again then it may have been a loose or bad connection.

If you have another machine available, you could try switching the power supplies and seeing if that is the problem.

Good luck!

Orange light on Dell GX270 power button

A solid orange light, usually indicates an internal power problem but just in case try reseating the memory. Also its become a habit on a GX270 to check the capacitors to make sure they aren't bulging.
