Question about Acer AL2017 20" LCD Monitor
I turn on the monitor and a few seconds later it goes black. The green light(power light) remains on, showing that the monitor is getting power and signal, but the screen is black. If i turn the monitor off and then back on, it shows the desktop for a few seconds and then it goes black again(the time that the monitor shows before it goes black may vary but most times is about 2sec).If you look really close and carefully to the screen you can see the desktop but its like there is no backlight on the monitor. Can you tell me what is the problem and how to fix it or i need to replace the monitor?
Monitor going black after a few seconds can be causd by a faulty power supply or inverter. Some monitors have both as one unit.
Sometimes it is basic failed capacitors, After that then I would look at transistors.
The average monitor from 17 to 20 and sometimes the 22s have usually 4 bulbs in them. One bad bulb will also cause the inverter to not fire up.
Bad bulbs usually show pinkish tint, or flickering or are dark at center top or bottom of the display.

This could be a faulty power supply. If it's an external one then try substituting for another. If the PSU is current limiting due to a fault then it may be dropping the voltage slightly below the backlight operating point but the LCD and power light will keep working. This happened with my Flat panel TV. Alternatively there could be a problem with the backlight inverter.
