Half flush doesn't stop running

I've got a caroma toilet cistern. When I'm using the half flush, the water wouldn't stop running. By luck it will eventually stop by pressing both the half and full flush or sometimes just the full flush. Any clue on fixing this? Thanks.

I am assembling the components of a new cistern, one of the things I have to do is to adjust the float for half and full flush by moving the float up or down, however, I just can't move the float in either direction. could you tell me how to do it. The brand of the toilet is Denver close coupled cistern sold by Bathstore, London

The bolts are hidden in the body of the toilet

When I press the full flush it works fine, but when the half flush is pressed the button pops up straight away and only a small amount of water is released ( not half a flush)

Yes, If I remember correctly you need to replace the flush valves. I cant remember if there is just one or two valves but they need to be replaced. go to your nearest plumbing supply house (a home improvement store will not carry it) and get a new valve. This will fix your problem.

Are you saying that water is running into the toilet bowl? If so, check the rubber flapper at the bottom, and the valve (tube standing up).

Fixing a leaky toilet is actually rather simple, requiring few tools and just a little time and effort. In looking at Caroma toilets on Google, they appear to be just a standard type of unit, and should present few if any problems for yourself or any handyman of modest skill.

If it is leaking around the base of the toilet - where the toilet sits on the floor, the repair item is a simple wax seal. Here is a tutorial to effect this repair: Replace Toilet Wax Ring. The wax ring is very inexpensive, usually $5 to $10 USD.

If the water is leaking from between the tank (cistern) and the toilet bowl, the job is even easier, as it does not require lifting and moving the entire toilet. A good tutorial for that repair is here: How to Replace Tank to Bowl Gasket . The gaskets, new nuts, bolts and rubber seals come in a kit and also cost only $5 to $10 USD.

I am sorry to hear your Plumber insisted you buy an entire new toilet, but do remember he is in the business of making money!

check the donut seal which seals the cistern to the pan, they perish and leak when the toilet is flushed, water runs down back of pan to floor you can check this by drying/wiping with tissue back of pan and flushing you will see if any moisture is running down there by wiping again with tissue and seeing if it is damp.

Hi, i have a caroma duel flush toilet possibly 10 years old, it is leaking into the bowl and then constantly re filling, i replaced the washer/ring/ thing at the point where the water exits into the bowl...

First make sure it is not overfilling. The water level must stop before it reaches the overflow pipe. If it continues to run it will overflow into the bowl and continue to run. Adjust the fill level to the mark inside the tank. Make sure nothing is getting under the flapper and holding it open. You replaced the flapper so we know that is not the problem. Just make sure the flapper is centered on the drain hole.

Problem overflow valve

Firstly open the top of the Cistern(Where water is held)There are two most common Cistern internals ie;Ball-O-Stop(Ball on a arm connecting to valve). This one is easy, you just bend the arm downwards in the centre so that the ball shuts the valve at a lower level; The other type has a shaft(plastic) with a thread on it, connecting it to a "small bowl" that lifts up as water enters the cistern. To adjust the water level in cistern you have to turn the thread(Shaft) lowering the "small bowl" wich will shut the inlet to the cistern at a lower level. Hope this helps
