Question about Gateway M-6850FX Refurbished Laptop Computer - Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 1.83GHz, 802.11a/g/n Wireless, PC Notebook
WHEN I FIRST GO ON THE COMOPUTER IS FINE THEN IT FREEZES UP THE CURSER JUST FLOATES AROUND AND A WHITE HAZE COMES OVER THE SCREEN AND I CAN'T DO ANYTHING. I TRIED STARTING IT UP IN SAFE MODE BUT THAT DID NOT HELP
1 of 5 possibilitys
1. Bad LCD
2. Bad inverter.
3. loose connector.
To narrow it down, plug an external monitor into the VGA adapter.
If it works, its 1, 2 or 3.
To find out which one it is would require dissasembly of the laptop , if that is some thing you feel comfortable doing , you can at least check the connector to be sure it is secure. If not you will need to take it to a shop.
If it does the same when plugged to an external monitor, the motherboard may be going bad or simply overheating. Again you would need to take it apart to determine this.
If it turns out to be the LCD , most places will charge around 400 bucks to replace the LCD. If you are a do it yourself person you can find one on ebat for around 150
