I have a generator designed 440V but the problem is I can use only 220V and the 440V cannot

440 volts is normally 3 phase so unless you have a suitable 3 phase plug it will only be 220 volts
read your user manual carefully

No 120v/240 output @twistlock recptacle

The big box home supply centers carry these. match up the current rating and voltage rating on the generator, then buy the receptacle to match.

Briggs & Stratton Briggs Stratton 6200 Watt Portable Generator voltage adjust

Usually the cause of slightly low voltage like this is that the engine is not running at full operating RPM. Find the high speed adjusting screw on the govenor linkage and adjust the engine RPM until the output is 220V - 240V

I have a 4 prong tanning bed 220v and my appliance outlet at home only accepts the 3 prong plus such as the ones you see on a dryer. How can i get this converted to a 3 prong so that i can plug it in? Or...

It is because you tanning bed requires L1 and L2 (240V) and a seperate neutral, and a ground. You need an electrician to install a proper outlet. A dryer (years ago) was installed without a neautral. However per NEC electrical code even new dryers have to have 4 wires. Do not attempt to use on 3 wires !

UNIT SHUTS DOWN FREQUENTLY

How soon after starting does it shut down?
The hour meter is fed directly from the AC output off the generator stator, if there is no AC output the meter will not run. Assuming it shutdowns quickly, check 1st the oil level and make sure the low oil sender unit is ok, wire #24 to ground. If that is bad it will shut down. Check to see if you have 240V on L1 and L2 on the breaker for the brief time it does start, that will confirm stator/rotor has an output, then your problem moves from the generator portion to either the oil sender, or control board.

On a 120-240V system you should have a reading between white and black as desribed, you should have nothing between the black wires and ground, however you can only test by completely disconencting them all, you may have a N-G bonding jumper in the output wirs giving you that reading

I purchased a Coleman Powermate 5000 6 years ago: Ser: 94411583. Never really used it for any length of time. Kept for emergency. An electrician checked it for voltage output a short time ago. 240V...

Voltage is adjusted by raising or lowering the engine speed (governor adjustment), however one must also pay attention to the rpm because your generator was designed to produce 120 volts at 60 cycles while turning 3600 rpm. Your electrician should have tested for htz while testing for voltage. I would recommend re-testing under load and adjust governor to turn 60 cycles to see resulting voltage.

Older Coleman 3500 Watt generator, sitting for over 2 years. engine starts and runs normally, but no power generated.

there can be many reasons. need more info:
Is it Inverter typr generator?

measure output voltage - anything?
take back cover off generator itself, measure continuity of stator and rotor, and visually inspect windings. You'll find AVR module there too, it may be the reason.

Coleman Powermate Progen 5000, the 240 locking 4 plug, how to wir

The L1420p is a common plug used for most all generators having 20amp outlet with ground. The markings on the plug are as follows; x,y, are hot connections 115v each; w connection is neutral; g is ground. You will need a four conductor cable to connect all the wires. In some cases, there is no need to connect the ground wire because on the generator, the ground is the frame. Check your manual for the proper method of attaching a ground to your generator. So unless you are grounding the frame to a ground rod or other method, the ground wire on the plug just goes to frame. If the heater is used on a jobsite, check local codes or OSHA requirements. You could also just ground the heater like many appliances in the home where there is an extra ground wire from the frame of the appliance to ground. Good Luck
