Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer won't start. Pressing "Start" button just emits 4 beeps.

Fisher Paykel ED56AU Clothes Dryer. After pressing "Power" then "Start", dryer would stop after a few minutes or sometimes a few seconds. Tried turning off at the power point etc. No difference. Now when you press "Start" you just get 4 beeps. It won't go at all. Any idea before I pay 100.00 for a service call.

Does the drum turn? if it doesnt you can assist it and see it that is problem, have to remove top and push it. that would be capacitor on motor or jumper the door closed switch and try to spin.

I have the same dryer and the same problem. If I hold the door in a bit tighter it works. But as soon as a release it it stops. I have put in a new striker but still does it. Should I replace the bit the striker fits into? I really do not want to do this as it is hard to get to.

Easy fix! The door must twist or something and the door sensor switch doesn't get pressed in enough (this is the switch at the bottom ot top of the door depends which way you mounted the dryer), not the white one on the side... Anyway - take the plastic cover off the hinge and then remove the small metal hinge plate (you need to remove the one furthest from the door sensor switch). place a small washer behind the plate and screw it all back together. This acts as a shim and twists the door back so the pin on the door depresses the switch properly. Depending on how much the door is twisted, you may need to try a few different thickness washers to get it right. Remember, too thick and the rubber door seal will not fit snuggly. Good Luck

Wow! Thanks Doggie. Right now I glued an 'extetesion tube' over the stud that goes into the slot so it is a little longer. So far it is working!

hi - the beeps are an indications the door has not closed proper - It will seem the door switch could be faulty?

you could try adjustments - door hinge cover has door switch behind - loosen and see if seats better. You may have to replace the door switch mechanism to fix the problem.

Fisher & Paykel Dryer model ED56 constant beep

Diagnostic Mode
Entering the Diagnostic Mode
(a) Turn the power supply to the dryer on.
(b) Press and hold the Auto Dry down button, then press the Power
button.
The dryer is now in level 0 of the diagnostic mode. After initial entry into the
diagnostic mode, the Start/Pause button operates the dryer as normal. Press
the Auto Dry up or down buttons to scroll through the fault levels.
There are several levels of diagnostics, most of which are used in
development and production. These levels may bring on various LEDs, but
the level of use for the service technician is that of the last fault.
Last Fault
To enter the last fault diagnostics, enter the diagnostic mode as described
above, then press the Auto Dry up button three times. The last fault will be
displayed on the drying progress LEDs.
The manual is here

Dryer tries to start - then stops and beeps PLEASE HELP

Check the exhaust hose. If the dryer isn't venting properly it will either stop or the heater will turn off and the clothes will remain wet. If the hose is not clogged check the wall vent tube.

I found advice on the Fisher Paykel web site that suggested the problem could be the door lock. In fact the catch had not properly engaged & when I fixed that the dryer worked.
