Re: acess denied

The reason for this is probably because the backup and restore files for your notebook, reside there and are hidden, although this would only be a small sized partition, you should be able to right click and explore it. If you wish to access it you would have to right click on my computer icon>manage and then click on the partition and format it.

Hard drive is not acessible

On another computer download and then burn the Knoppix disk.
Boot the Knoppix disk. Key ctl>alt>f1 to get to console session. Use cfdisk as follows:
cfdisk /dev/sda
cfdisk /dev/hda
One of these should you a listing of the partitions on your hard disk. Mount the main partition thus:
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt
cd /mnt
Now you can search the partition and save files as needed.

Not enough memory

If you have low memory (RAM) then install more RAM.
If you have low memory (hard disk space) the delete unwanted data files and uninstall unwanted programs.
Hard disk maintenance should be carried once a month to make your computer run efficiently. This removes redundant and temporary files, recovers disk space and speed up hard disk access. Disk Cleanup should be done first - Click My Computer - then right click on the C drive then click Properties, then click Disk Cleanup - let it examine the C drive then it will calculate the amount of disk space it will recover, tick all the boxes to recover the maximum disk space and then Click OK and then Yes to perform these actions. If you have a D drive then repeat these steps on this drive too. Next the C drive needs to be Defrag. This process converts fragmented files into continuous files and this speeds up disk access and makes the hard disk not work as hard. Click on Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter - click to highlight the C drive and click Analyse - then click Defragment. When this is completed repeat these steps for the D Drive if you have a D drive. Disk Cleanup and Defrag can take a long time to complete, especially if these tasks have not been for a long time.

My laptop is not booting. It gives some sort of I/O error about the hard disk. So I ran Ubuntu Live so that i can create a back up of the data. Now, the hard disk does not show in my computer. But it shows...

The computer hard drive has broken, not alot you can do about this any attemp to format will fail and partition too will fail, you can remove the hard drive from your computer and plug it into an external hard drive caddy and then plugging it into your system via the USB port on it, depends on how badly it is damage you might be able to retrieve some data if not all but please be aware if it is badly damage it might not work at all,

Have a toshiba sattelite dont know what number. cannot do anything on it. it says that there is no bootable device and to install the bootable disc in which i do not have. how can i get my laptop to work...

Firstly, when the laptop powers up, look for a message on the screen giving you options to press one or more function keys (F1 to F12) to access the bios or enter the system recovery mode. Use the button to access the BIOS SETUP and once in the bios setup, check that it recognises the hard disk (if one is present). If there is no hard disk then check that one is actually in the laptop by opening the hard drive cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Assuming the hardrive is present and is shown in the bios, reboot the laptop and access the RECOVERY mode if possible. There may be a recovery partition on the hard disk which will allow you to recover the operating system to factory default.
If there is no recovery partition then you will need to get hold of a Windows Vista installation disk. You may be able to borrow one from a friend if you do not want to buy one.
Look on the bottom for a Windows Vista label. This label should have a key on it which can be used to activate Windows Vista if required.
If the bios does not show your hard disk or the hard disk is not present in your laptop then you will need to buy a replacement hard disk.

My dell laptop is showing 230gb memory as unallocated. i tried to make new volume with that but access denied. help me out

if you are referring to unallocated space of your hard disk, just make sure you are logged in to Windows with admin rights/access, then go to Windows Disk Management to create partition/volume from the unallocated space.

RecoveryDisk Creator does not offer any disk selections to create

To access the recovery partition you need to boot up on a DVD with a partition manager on it, then set the hidden partition as "ACTIVE" and un-Active, the existing partition, then remove DVD and reboot, then the laptop will boot from the recovery partition and should autorun start the recovery procedure.

hi, go under the Security option of your Hdd partition and make sure the Administrator and Owner are there. Make sure that your User name is there too with full permission. If it doesn't work on the same screen click on Advanced (located under the permissions tab) and click on the owner tab. Now click on your user name and select replace owner... at the bottom and click ok. it should work

Cant access my hard drive says access denied

Right click the hd in my computer
choose properties
click security tab
see the permissions your account has got on the hd.
if your account is part of administrators group you can add your account, get full control on the hd or take ownership of the drive.
