I thing the recoil spring is stuck it may be rusty. Its time for a complete maintenance on this mower. But you could try tapping the top of the recoil where the rope coils up into. Bang it a few times as you pull on the rope. this may free it up. Good luck DFD

Lawnmower blade wont turn

Probably bent the shaft. Disconnect the spark plug to prevent accidental starting and lay the lawn mower on its side. Slowly turn the blade with your hand and watch the center of the shaft. If it wobbles at all it is bent. $150 to $200 job. Probably time for a new mower.

Toro Electric Start Problem

Remove spark plug and observe condition. Fouled with oil, bad motor. With plug removed pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray WD40 in spark plug hole, pull rope several times see if oil blows out. Spray a lot of starter fluid in spark plug hole, replace plug. Spray starter fluid in air cleaner area of carb, try to start. Replace spark plug, try to start. Ensure oil is full, all mowers have a low oil sensor now. 30w oil. Always use Stabile in gas.

I own a craftsman LT 2000 17 HP it has worked well and as a rule I am pleased however recently I changed my blades and encountered a problem in that the laft bade turns slower than the right the result is...

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
You assessment of the problem is pretty much on the mark. Here is what you should do to check the bearing.
1. Remove the belt from the suspect deck pulley
2. Reach under and try and teeter the blade by gripping the end of the blade and lifting it up and down. (None allowed but compare it to the good blade) Watch both the under side of the mower deck for movement and the upper side pulley of the mower deck for movement.
3. Spin the blade by hand and feel the blade bearing upper housing as it spins You should NOT feel any rumbles, strange vibration or odd noises as the blade is rotated.
4. Wrap a nylon rope around the drive pulley like a starter recoil tightly, tie it off and try and rotate the blade. Reverse your nylon rope wrapping direction and do this again. If the blade moved and the pulley does not move most likely the shaft key in the blade adapter has sheared or is missing. (You can try this test with the belt on....also vs using a rope. I find that I still have to tie the belt together to keep is from rotating.)

By doing this you are going to identify the problem.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,

The starter rope won't move at all. Maybe the blade is stuck? It's been in storage for a year.

You have to see if the cylinder is stuck. Pull the plug and try. Still no go? Maybe the recoil starter is stuck. Make sure the handle cutoff lever is functional and disengaging the brake at the motor. If so then unplug the spark plug (for safety) and then try turning the motor by moving the blade underneath. No? Take it to a shop your out of your league. If the motor is frozen and you are asking on this site you need a mechanic. Good luck.

My Craftlman lawn mower stopped running in the middle of mowing the lawn. Engine YTPXS.1951BA Engine model 143.016722. The rope would not pull and the blade would not move. Checked the dip stick, no oil....

Either the magneto or the off switch is stuck in closed position, If you have dead man's control make sure that it is activated when you go to start the motor.

Pull rope stuck

It sounds as if the motor may be locked up. WIth spark plug wire disconnected, turn mower on side and see if you can turn blade. It should turn rather easily, but you will feel the compression stroke. If you can' turn it try removing the spark plug. If you still can't turn it, check the oil level, if it's low the motor may be siezed. You also could have a stuck valve. If it is a valve you can try removing the cover, and soak it with oil. It is imperative to watch the oil level in small motors, as well as being sure to change it.

Mower blades locked

You may have broke the flywheel key. if that broke it will not start. The key is important for the proper ignition timing. They break so you dont damage the crankshaft. It may be a big job if you dont know your way around a small engine.

look under neath and see if anything is stuck in the blade. You probly have a cover for the top part; see if you can pop off a plastic top if you have one.
