Question about Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray Player
Bought a new Sony Blue Ray disk player last week. It played our regular DVDs just fine over our TV. However, when we rented a Blue Ray disk, it didn't want to play over our TV. We have a Panasonic Veira Plasma, and we have hooked the two together with an HDMI cable. It's not just that the blue ray disk isn't playing, it is, because sound from the Blueray disk is coming through the stereo speakers, and the timer is playing for the disk on the player's display, but it doesn't want to come up through the TV. It reads like there's nothing hooked up to the TV at all. It's like there's some sort of connection problem between the player and the TV. But what doesn't make sense to me, is that it will play regular dvds through the same system just fine. I have checked the HDMI cable to make sure it's been plugged in all the way. I've even unhooked and hooked it back up, and turned of both devices while doing so. And yes, the TV imput is set to the right one.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Sony BluRaywon't play back disk
That is one of the problem with manufacturers that don't clearly explain the consumers that most of the blue ray dvd player is designed to play blue ray dvds ®ular dvds, but it wasn't never designed to back any DVD-R or DVD-RW.
Sorry, there is no way around it,because Sony enjoyed being exclusive in many things.

I had the same problem with some Netflix Blu-Ray rented DVDs, and here's what fixed it:
(1): Download and burn the latest firmware (version 4.50) from Sony: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?upd_id=4320&mdl=BDPS300
Follow their procedure carefully. For example, do NOT burn it to a CD-RW, only a CD-R. The downloaded file is an ISO file that you can burn with Nero Burning ROM's "burn image" menu item as well as a wide variety of freeware tools.
(2): AFTER the firmware has been updated, perform the normal reset procedure: Power it on, press the front panel STOP button (the square icon) and press the power button at the same time.

SOURCE: I have a Sony BDP300
I suggest that you install the latest firmware update to resolve the issue. Please click the following link to download the latest firmware update.
It is recommended to use CD -R disc to create the firmware update disc. I hope you're clear with downloading the update from support page. Once you download and save the file in the folder in the computer, you can double click the file to extract. You will be prompted to save the UPDATE_BDPS300_VER0550.ISO file in a folder. Most of the customers will be making mistake here after... We need to use a burning software which is capable to burning discs from ISO images. ISO image is nothing but a RAW format of burned image. I will give you the instructions to burn using Nero.. Steps will be almost same in all ISO capable software. Open installed nero software from computer. You may locate it under Start Menu programs. Go to File Menu (Some times you will get a wizard where you can select the Image Burning option or burn ISO option) Navigate the extracted .ISO file we saved in the computer. follow the onscreen instructions. Insert the disc when ever Nero asked to insert Hope this helps. If you need any assistance. Please get back to me. I will be more than happy to assist you. Thanks for understanding.
