Olympus e520 will not turn on

My new olympus e520 will turn on with no card inserted but when I put in a compact flash or xd card it will not turn on. It has been working perfectly until today when I removed the cf card to download some photos

Look inside CF card slot. Check for bent pin. If it is, repair is $200-250 or try bending it back. It's already broke and costs no more if pin breaks off.

Which card are you using the XD card or a compact flash card? If you have an external reader, confirm that the card can be read on a computer still, or if you have another card, try that to see if it works. It is possible that in reinsterting the card you may have damaged the contacts in the socket. More likely with the Compact Flash than XD card.Very nice camera, sorry to hear you having problems, hopefully it is nothing serious. Media cards can fail. Have you already backed up the pictures that were on the card? If so, try to reformat the card if you have a connection for it on your PC.

Sorry, but Olympus usually uses XD cards. You can find some MicroSD to XD adapters, but that's it - the XD is Olympus standard.

OLYMPUS XD Card - CLEAN or FORMAT - and not reading in computer

Your 2gb xd card would be of the "M" or "H" designation, which is a new type of card which is not always compatible with many cameras and card readers. If the other cards that work are not H or M cards, that is most likely the problem

its the card not the camera.
i think you fingers have come into contact with the gold bits on the xd card.
try wipping the card and putting it in several times,if all fails buy your self an olympus 1gb xd card H TYPE.

"Write Protect" on Olympus FE-115

Check the manual to discover how write protect is achieved with your particular camera/card Some card rely on a silver foil stick[Smart Media] other have a switch. Compact flash rely on a control on the camera. So you will have to have a good browse through the manual - do not forget that there is a Full manual in PDF on the software disk.

Panoramic Pictures

If I remember my last Olympus camera it would only work in Panorama mode with an official Olympus memory card. No third party cards would enable that feature. My instructions read "An Olympus xD-Picture Card is required for panorama shooting." If you are using an official Olympus xD-Picture card, there may be a problem with your camera.
