Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

MFC8440 copier/scanner/fax the cover is hinged with two hinges: a smaller right hinge and the left hinge a type of split spring switch that moves up and down in the base of the copier (probably to allow for thicker documents being copied). The lid/cover attaches to the lower part of this switch unit using a pin approx. 1-3/4" long. I am trying to identify and locate the lower part of the switch/hinge as the plastic ears on either side that the pin goes through has broke of and no longer secures the lie/cover.

If its the left hinge that is busted you can order a replacement here > http://www.precisionroller.com/find/h7914.htm

Reply back if that is not the right part.

I changed a printer cartridge and the lid is stuck open. HP 3310 Photosmart. I did reseat the cartridge I changed to no avail. I am most curious how this can be fixed without forcing the lid down. Thank...

hello, well, you can take off the right cover, with printer unplugged, and disconnect cables that connect to the scanner top cover area. the hinges have press lock that will require you to press up, and slide towards the front and lifting up at same time. the scanner will come off, using #10 torq bit, take hinges out of machine, if you some white grease or light weight lithium oil, use it in and around the actual hinge area, basicly what your working against is plastic on plastic, with a powerful spring, so do this carefully and try not to pinch your fingers, it hurts alot. try slowly to open and close hinge slowly, if it does not move freely, don't force or it will break, that spring used is under alot of pressure, so do it slowly, lube and try to move, lube and try to move. when it works smoothly put back together

Doc cover open errror message on a mfc-8840d and cant' seem to print anything and the mode always is in fax mode and we can't seem to change it.

That error happens when the left hinge in the back breaks and the scanner cover won't shut all the way. temporarily you can tape the switch that is above the hinge and when the error is gone the modes should change again. The hinge is #LP2403001.

You need a new hinge so the cover will sit down properly, or paper will jam anyway, but it sounds like there is still a scrap of paper on one of the sensors inside the ADF, you need to look with a flashlight down thru where the paper goes and also look up thru the slot with the ADF lifted.

Parts for Brother MFC 8200D

Yes, I had the same problem in Sept 2006 - a broken left hinge that needed fixing. Ordering the part was easy. I was able to install it myself, but it required some attention to detail.

I called Brother International at 800-284-4357, Option 1, then 2. I ordered the left hinge - Part No: LP-2403001 - described as ADF Hinge Assembly (left). If you broke the right hinge, the part number may differ slightly, but person on phone should be able to assist. It cost me $11.55 including shipping.
