Question about Toshiba SD-H400

1 Answer

Video failure... My SDH400 is connected to OTA antenna and I am running off of the Tivo Basic service (no monthly fee... love it.) I recently brought my SDH400 to a friends house to record a show on Comcast cable. I still have the original packaging as I am very protective of the unit. When I brought it back home I was not able to get the video to work. I see the grey powering up screen but I get a black screen in lieu of the Tivo welcome screen. From there, I get the black sreen regardless of wether I am trying live TV, pre-recorded content or the DVD. The unit behaves as if it is working, the lights on the front seem to respond and the LCD for the DVD indicates operations Opening, Loading, Play and such. Every once in a while, I get a flicker of the Tivo welcome screen. I have tried blowing any dust out of the unit and disconnecting/reconnecting the power, the antenna, the coaxial cable to the TV without any luck. I see that there are replacement disk drives with the software preloaded but my guess is this is a hardware problem. Anyone advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

How do I set up a tivo series2 to a new digital tv. Do I need analog to digital converter?

Analog to digital converter is for OTA transmission. You are using a cable system, right? If so you have to feed into your Tivo the cable output signal from your cable box and set your tivo to correct rf or video input. Since cable tuner is determining channel all you can do to record is set the channel on your cable unit and program your tivo to turn on and record the input at appropriate time..

My TV uses antenna only and I want to record TV programs. Is there a DVR that will work for me? (the Toshiba DVR 620 that I just purchased will not connect to my TV antenna unless there is an access

I use a TiVo roamio basic, it can record up to 4 programs at once and has a 500gb harddrive and is made for OTA, but can also use a cable card. Check it out on eBay.com or TiVo.com.

Why am i getting a Temporary Service Connection error message?

Did you go into Settings, Phone and Network, Change network settings, and inform the TiVo of the changes, especially to the SSID (which you should not be broadcasting)?

I'm pretty sure the TiVo doesn't need to know the router's password, if you mean the password you have to enter to access your router via a web browser for purposes of changing settings on it, although if you're running any kind of wireless encryption on that router the TiVo will need to know whatever password is associated with that.

And while you're at it, consider giving everything on your home network that doesn't leave the house a fixed IP address that lies outside of your router's DHCP address pool, and making that address pool only a little bit bigger than the number of devices you anticipate needing an IP address assigned via DHCP once you've handed out fixed addresses to everything that doesn't travel.

Tivo won't know this until you tell it.... you need to change your network settings on your Tivo to reflect the new SSID and password...........

How do you retune a tivo?

Press TiVo Central button, go to Settings & Messages, Select settings, Select Network, Select connect to TiVo. Let this run. Should connect. If that doesn't work, unplug for 10 seconds and let it try to connect, if it doesn't, follow above steps again. My TiVo mini does this all the time, I love the TiVo features and the idea behind it is great, but the mini is JUNK. Hope this helps.

Im trying to connect my unit to my tv to record shows and i having trouble doing so please help i am hooking it up wrong

For OTA or CATV signals, you need to daisy chain the coax from the source (antenna for OTA) to the coax input on DVD recorder and then the coax out to the coax input of the TV. If you have a set-top cable box with an incoming CATV signal, it should be connected between the DVD recorder and the TV.

The unit can tune in and record 480i (SD) ATSC (OTA digital), NTSC (OTA analog), analog CATV and digital CATV channels.

A satellite receiver or a non-CATV cable box should get the incoming signal first and then have their composite video output (A/V) connected to the DVD recorder composite video input and then their coax (RF) output (if present) gets connected to the TV. For these, you would record from the IN1 or IN2 (press Select Input) instead of selecting a channel. Then connect the composite video out on the recorder to the TV's composite video in.

Digital signals are either enough to tune in or give no signal. So check that your antenna is correctly oriented for OTA.

Separately, you can connect the video signal when playing DVDs via composite (good signal) out and component out (better signal) out to the TV's matching input. For the component video, the sound is carried on a separate cable. Then set the TV to the input source.

In the case of wanting to watch a VHS tape while taping to a DVD, do not use the Component video source, set the TV to Input 1 (composite).

I hope this helps.

Philips hdr 212 tivo manual recording

Hello, You cannot without a LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTION. Or Subscribe for the monthly fee.
Look into some of the older ReplayTV Units. RTV-1000,2000,3000 series. You can do manual record without a fee.
There are some Tivo Hack Software Tips out on the internet.
But not sure how well they work.

Connection Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1250 tuner?

you are not going to get anything once you disconnected from the provider. It is the same thing as just pull the cable from the wall.
you can get TV signal (normal basic-brocasted) by using the roof top antenna, I don't know what kind of antenna will be require after 2/09. when the TV broadcast change to digital signal. but in the mean time, you need a converter box from analog to digital for the TV.

Nobody want to pay the monthly fee. if you have the equipment, you can set up the receiving station from the satellite. then you don't have to pay anything. As far as I know, no body have such equipment. cable company spend millions of dollars to set them up, so you have to pay for it.

Antenna signal disappeared--a mystery! Help

Well if multiple devices are unable to find a signal, then I would definitely try calling the broadcasting stations and see if anything happened at that time when you lost the signal. Since it was during a show you should be able to narrow down the time easily enough. An antenna is so basic that it really shouldn't ever have problems, you could use a wire or coathanger and get a tv signal. If you have a second tv or a friend who can bring one over and test it with the antenna, then that will further narrow it down to which I believe the stations are out. We had a station out for 3 days up here once but the rest still worked. I've never heard of anything like this before. I could understand if one device can't find the signal. Stations don't always realize they aren't broadcasting until someone calls in. It wouldn't hurt anyway and I would be very interested to find out what is wrong once you get it working. The only other possibility is that you had a powersurge while you were gone or a power outage. Try resetting all devices by unplugging them (the tv for 8 hours). Also, did the Tivo continue to record when the signal was lost or does it seem like it was shut off, that would be a big indicator of what happened. Please update me on this, thanks and good luck
