I think the problem is with the internal power jack which tends to break. the part is MG361213 and is available at laptopjacks.com. You have to take the Unit apart and remove the old jack and resolder the new one which is a three pin unit.
Good Luck

turn off your unit with the slide switch on the top. Hold down the repeat button or the one beside the slide switch and then put the slide switch back to the on position. Then select hdd tools then format. exit out and turn the switch off and back on and it should work

there is a little pin hole on the side on the unit. you need a paper clip to reset it
SOURCE: my magellan roadmate 1424 won't turn on.
I don't think the problem is with your reset, i think the problem is with your battery, as in it's dead. Most of these units whether Garmin, Tom Tom or whomever all need to have the battery working to some degree. They do not like to use the 12 volt system as power they prefer to use the battery as a form of ups power setting, since the electronics in these things are so light and testy, the battery makes for a ups system, If the battery is bad and will not take a charge then the unit will not turn on and if it does it will turn right off again as soon as it finishes it self check.Hope this helps.
SOURCE: reset button for a magellan
Hi allen,
Magellan RoadMate models 1340, 1440, and 1470 are normally reset as follows:
The reset button is located on the right side of the unit. Press a blunt object like a long-shaft ballpoint pen or a cut off toothpick
into the small hole and hold for approximately 15 seconds. The unit should do a fresh reboot. Sometimes these GPS units can be reset by holding the Power button down for 10-15 seconds to completely shut the unit down. Then, do the same procedure for 10-15 seconds again, to power it back on.
Also, here's another procedure you really only try as a last resort, if the unit is on, but acting up with various menus and functions. Use this very carefully...
While on the main Menu Bar at "System Settings", tap the left corner twice, right corner twice, left corner once, and finally, right corner once. You will see a 'Hidden' menu with a "Reset for first use". Press that option and the unit will perform a hard reset. Hopefully, you can continue all you setups from this point.
Also you can download a complete manual from this link:
http://www.magellangps.com/assets/manuals/Magellan_RoadMate_1440_EN.pdf
The manual won't tell you all these little tricks, so it might be a good idea to make a hard copy of these notes (in case you ever need them again...lol). I hope this helps. Please let me know how it turns out, and contact me if you need further help.
Regards, Bill
