Question about Kitchen Appliances - Others

1 Answer

My vintage sunbeam toaster just quit working. It is special to me because it belonged to my late sister. It's the kind that lowers the bread automatically. Now it will not do anything. Is there anything I can do to get it working again?

Yes you probably can. I would check in side to see if a wire may have just broke off. when old wires get brittle they sometimes pop off. check the wireing and of any fuse that may be in side. I bet there is still life in the unit still

Adjust the screw on the bottom which adjusts the tension created by the heaters. If this doesn't work, "bump" it some to dislodge crumbs that may be inferfering with the trip lever for the thermostat.
If nothing works, try kitchenmade usa or toaster central who both work on and fix vintage toasters.

AUTOMATIC LOWERING SENSOR DOESN'T WORK

I found another site that described the fix. On the bottom of the toaster, after removing the crumb tray, there is a screw in the middle that can be turned to adjust the sensitivity of the lift mechanism. Here's a link to the site http://www.automaticbeyondbelief.org/fixing.htm

I have a Sunbeam T-20B that I love. Have kept it working, but now with a new partner who did not understand it operation...it does not turn on! Can you help?

There is a screw at the bottom of the toaster under the bread crumb tray to adjust the sensitivity to weight, usually just needs a half or quarter turn to work. If that doesn't work you may have to open it up and adjust the bimetallic thermostat, and that's much trickier.

There is an adjustment knob on the bottom turn 180 degrees counter clock wise and try again if still doesn't, drop repeat till successful.
