Question about Sony DVP-NS55PS DVD Player

1 Answer

Menu reads "Disc is dirty" and refuses to play disc when inserted

OK, I've had this DVD player for a little less than a year. Today, I picked up a new DVD, and I noticed that the loading time took quite a bit longer than usual upon insertion. After the delayed loading, a message flashed on the screen stating "The Disc Is Dirty", upon which I inserted a DVD lens cleaner, which did not work. The only results from that were "Cannot play this disc". I am getting a little tired of buying a new DVD player every year (this is my 4th), so is there a quick fix for my problem?

Check disc

The only practical way to check such a disc is by substitution of another disc which is believed to be OK. But first, verify your test disc is OK by playing the disc in another player known to operate properly. If the disc passes that test, insert the OK disc in your DVP615. If the test disc produces the same error message as your first disc, the player itself is more likely to be defective. However, there is still a small chance the read head is merely dirty or dusty, so cleaning is the next step.

No matter what DVD we put in, the player stays on "READ"

either the disc you inserted hasn't got a menu. the only thing DVD's do this is because there is no Menu provided in the DVD DISC. In the other case, where it remains "read" the disc might not be clean, scratched, dusty or simply incompatible with your DVD Player. Always clean discs before and after playing them in your DVD Player. Hope this helps, good luck!

Can not read disc

I mainly use my DVR to record TV shows on DVD-RAM discs (Panasonic brand or Maxell). I've had no problems with the DVD-RAM discs. However, today when I put a DVD-R disc in the recorder, I got an "Incompatible Disc" error message. I tried a second disc from the same set, and got the same message. I tried out some of the DVD-Rs that I recorded last year and I could read them. Tried a DVD-RAM. That was OK. So, I tried another DVD-R disc. That one is OK. I don't know if the problem is that these DVD-Rs are getting a little old (2 years??) or if the recorder is developing its own problems reading discs.

Various LG DVD Player

Some models of PIONEER cd players had radio frequency problems that caused them to work on and off. Are you near any radio or braodcast towers? Poorly shielded power supplies cause this as well. A weak laser diode in the pick-up assembly in model runs could be the problem. You might want to Google the model number and see if this is common for these units.
