Question about Haier 5 cu. ft. / 142 liter Chest Freezer HCM050WA

1 Answer

Compressor problem When the compressor starts "?", there is a high pitched noise for about 5-10 seconds and then a sound like a switch kicks off. Do I need to replace the relay on the compressor, or is something else possibly wrong that could be causing this described noise? If I do need to replace a part, where is good source for the parts?

Re: Compressor problem

The click your hearing is a thermal cutout that is kinda like a little breaker, it gets to the temp that it is designed for and trips. If its making a high pitch noise, more than likely the compressor itself has gone out and needs to be replaced, its getting a high load and triping the thermal cutout.

My ocean freezer is not freezing

Really would like to have more info but lets start with a few things. Is there power to the unit? If yes, does the unit making any sound? you should here the compressor running. When a compressor fails it will take out the overload switch. Unplug the unit for a half a hour then plug it back in. If you here a sound that is best described as a metal TINK. that is the overload kicking out and you have a issue with the compressor, The other possibility is the thermostat could be bad and not calling for the compressor to come on. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

I have a Frigidaire freezer LFFU1424DW not freezing. Came home to melting ice and thawed food. I heard clicking noise like a fan but goes off after a few seconds. Help please.

first of all unplug that freezer and wait for 15 mins. move it five feet from the wall. after 15mins, plug it back and kick in compressor at the same time!!!! remember plug and kick at the same time. the ckicking noise come from the starting relais. this says that the compressor has a problem. If it doesn't work ; you will have to call a service person who will replace the compressor for you.

Hi, i have a Hoover HCA 36 FT ALU fridge freezer, a few weeks back it started making a wheird high pitched gurgling noise, a yesterday it stopped working. If i switch it off at the mains and then back on...

Sounds like a capillary issue. The capillary tube is the metering device for the refrigerant.... a long tube with the bore measured in thousandths of an inch. If it has become restricted, it could well be overloading the compressor on start-up if the pressures on the high and low sides of the system do not equalize. In my experience, this is quite common on systems utilizing R*134A, especially if the compressor has overheated previously. You may well need the services of a refrigeration technician.

The compressor only kicks in for a few seconds and switches off for a few minutes. It is hot but the freezer is not freezing

Actually, its not kicking on for a few seconds and switching off, its trying to start every few minutes. This could be caused because the compressor is bad, or the start kit which starts the compressor is bad. Since you will not have the equipment to jump start the compressor to see if the compressor is bad or the starter is bad, you will either have to have it inspected by a refrigerator repairman or buy the start kit, i.e. overload and start relay, for your model refrigerator and hope thats the problem. But if it turns out the compressor itself is bad, you will not be able to return this start kit once you install it, since any parts supplier will not accept returns on electrical parts.

Red light blinking with audible alarm. Compressor

That is the compressor starting relay trying to start the cooling cycle and the overload protector kicking off. You can try installing a new start device for about $50.00 but you are most likely looking at a compressor replacement which runs about $400.00

The motor in my freezer makes a very loud noise and sounds like it is trying to start, it takes a few seconds before it stops the noise, then starts running the freezer.

That's usually mounts inside the compressor. It could still last awhile so if you can put up with the noise just wait for it to quit before replacing the compressor or getting a new fridge.

Buzzing noise -Kyoto KU 9577 Freezer

you may have a bad compressor or a bad compressor relay. The buzzing noise sounds like the compressor trying to start but can't. Unplug the unit and pull the relay off the compressor. If it rattles like gravel in side it replace the relay. If it doesn't then you may need to call a repairman to check the compressor. Hope this helps.

GE chest freeze won't get cold

the noise your hearing indicates the possibility of a bad start relay on the comp or possibly it just came loose during the move. on the side of the compressor you will see 2-3 wires running into an electrical connection reseat this first. if still no operation replace teh relay. you can purchase thru any reputable appliance parts dealer. after replacing the relay if you have no operation then likely problem is seized comp.
domestic freezers do not have low pressure switches that indicate low freon charge.

Frigidaire upright freezer

Not good news. sounds like the compressor overcurrent protection device is operating . This suggests that a. compressor is siezed or b . If the compressor has a capacitor to aid starting , this could be u/s. If the latter then this could be replaced at a fraction of the cost of new comp. orst case the compressor is u/s.
