Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I am considering buying a DVDR3545V/37. From my cable company, I receive both a digital and analog signal. Retailers describe this unit as having "a tuner" or as having an "ATSC tuner." I understand that I need a QAM tuner to access my cable signal. Will this unit work in my system? Also, I have read comments from other consumers that this unit will not record certain cable channels. This is not an issue for me if those excluded channels are limited to the "premium movie" channels. Regards, Jim Tallahassee

Hi

You can connect and record almost all the channels with this Philips DVDR3545V/37 model. However, necessary cable connections must be made before you can record or playback TV programmes using your video recorder. This model will record all your tv channels. For more details about the connections between the tv and philps player/recorder please download the manual from here---

Do I need a digital converter box to recieve a digital broadcast with a Sharp LC-20SH4U TV?

Yes you need a digital converter box. Your model has an NTSC Analog Tuner. It doesn't have a Digital Tuner. This is why you need the converter box.

For example, many companies like Comcast or Time Warner or TCI etc used to broadcast Analog Signals through their wires. Now they have broadcasted only Digital Signals. This makes either your TV Obsolete as a Tuner or you have to get a digital converter so your Analog TV can receive the signal.

Depending on your service, it may be worth your while to get a TV with a digital Tuner.

Then again, it also depends on if you are connecting a box receiver to your TV. For example, if you have Directv or Dish, you would then use your standard Video/Audio or Composite Cables to transmit your signal OR your Out to TV Coaxial whichever works for your receiver. Some receivers have already built in converters . You should really consider all the factors to decide and determine it based on the type of service you have or want.

Cable company switched to digital, now my Ant A port on the vs-50603 does not receive signals. I can somewhat view the analog signals through my PIP only. other tv's in the house came back with signal 5...

When the cable company offers you digital cable, you typically need a cable box to unscramble the digital channels. Therefore you need to connect either a coaxial cable from the cable box's RF output, if it has one, or connect 3 RCA cables from the yellow, white and red jacks on the rear panel of the cable box to the TV. Analog channels only (if available) will go straight thru over the coaxial RF hookup. They are not scrambled. Select the proper input source on the TV for the cable box.

We have a phillips model #32PFL5332D/37 it has a flat screen. Is it digital or analog

Yes this TV should tune to both Digital & Analogue reception. See below I have copied an extract from the Philips technical site which gives you verification that this has digital capability. Hop this is of help to you. Next to analog NTSC broadcast reception, your TV has an integrated High
Definition TV tuner which receives, decodes and displays terrestrial ATSC and
unscrambled cable (QAM) signals.
HDTV quality is only reproduced when a broadcaster or cable provider broadcasts
HDTV signals.

Hi Dru,
Good news, your 42 inch Phillips has a built in digital tuner, all you need is an antenna.
Please post the model of your other Tv and I will check on the tuner type.
I have provided a link to a site that has good info on antenna types and the channels you will be able to recieve.

Send and receive speed

That's not even a coherent response. Even analog phones go from an analog signal from your home, to a digital signal at the carrier, to an analog signal at the recipients end. It all goes digital at some point.

Fax machines work fine with a digital phone. The baud rate may need to be lowered in some cases, but working for a cable company, I've personally worked with hundreds of fax machines that work just fine.

Try lowering the baud rate and/or using a DSL filter if you are having problems. If you are unable to find the baud rate or speed setting on your fax, you may want to contact Canon to find out how.

The instructions for our DTA800 digital to analog converter box for over the air waves for TV signals say since the signal is too weak that we need a SMART ANTENNA. What is that and what do you...

Hey boykinpierce,

The phrase "Smart Antenna" is often used to describe a multi-directional antenna or antenna array. These types of antennas are able to detect and automatically adjust to any changes in the TV signal strength you receive, and can generally be obtained through most major retailers. They primarily are used in areas where digital signals are weaker or somewhat inconsistent, and will attempt to optimize the signals they do receive before sending them to a TV or digital converter box.

Please keep in mind that while some DTV digital-to-analog converter boxes may have built-in Smart Antennas, this particular model (RCA DTA800) does not appear to have this feature.

If you're still not quite sure what to look for, please remember that you can always speak with a home theatre sales agent at your local Best Buy™ store for more information.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

Tv picture

It seems to me that you are watchin an analog signal on a digital HD TV, the analog signal is has a standard resolution of 720x576 for NTSC (American Signal) and 720x480 for PAL (European Signal).

It could be worth to go contact your cable company, they can hook you up with a digital receiver which gives a better signal and might even have a HD Signal (this means it has a HD-Ready 1280x720 of Full HD 1920x1080 resolution).

If you really want to use your LCD TV on his max this is really worth considering

Sound problem

I'm fairly certain this is a cable signal issue... I have had my digital audio cut in and out and the cable company traced it to a weak signal and replaced the cabling. No issues since. Just an FYI, my setup is a Sony 6.1 with an Optical cable. There is a Blue Light indicator for Surround and when I had the problem, the receiver's light would go off and the display "blinked."
