The WPA encryption key is in the wireless setting of your wireless router. Some later modelwireless routers have the Password (ie.Encryption key) and the SSID alreadyconfigured in the wireless router and this information is printed on a label onthe bottom of the router. These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adaptersin your computer/laptop. If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit yourrequirements. The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorizedaccess. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cablefrom your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computerand enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login andpassword and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID andEncryption key. The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 togenerate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access.
The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key.
The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings.
To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops, wireless printer and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops, wireless printer and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.
Your printer must have wireless capability. It is asking for your wireless security passphrase in order to join the wireless network. This passphrase is the key/phrase that you created when you setup your wireless network. You will need to login to your router and go to wireless setting section to find out what the passphrase is if you don't remember it.
I apologize but your description is a little confusing. You state you are trying to connect the xbox to the wireless connection through your PC?
If you are trying to connect your xbox to the internet through your wireless router but it ask for a WPA key, you will need to enter this key in order to gain internet access. If you do not know they key, you will need to access your router configuration page, log in and reset or generate the key.
You can do this by following the steps below. Open up your internet browser on your PC and go to your gateway IP address. This will usually be 192.168.1.1. A log in window should come up and you will need to log in. Once you log in, there should be a section for wireless internet settings/security. You will be able to add the pass key or reset it.
If this is not your wireless internet connection(this is a neighbors internet) then they will have to give you the pass key.
WPA with a Pre-Shared Key (PSK), also known as personal. PSK is entered as a pass phrase between 8 to 63 alphanumeric characters in the ASCII format at both ends of the wireless connection. Although PSK accepts a minimum of eight characters, for proper security, it is a good idea to use ample length and should not use a commonly known phrase. This phrase is used to generate session keys that are unique for each wireless client.
WPA pass phrase is a password for the wireless network to make it secured. You can obtain the WPA pass phrase when you access your router. Check the manual of your router for the address, username and password of your router. Go to wireless settings, you will see ther the SSID or Network Name, Network Key or the Pass Phrase and Authentication (WPA/WPA2/WEP). You can personalize the SSID,Network Key and Authentication. Remeber that for you to connect wirelessly the Authentication and Network Key on the router should match the Network Key and Authentication of the Printer or Computer.
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router . Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable? If not then connect 1 computer to the router and open the router set up page. Once you open the router set up page, you will be able to find the wireless network key. Use that password to connect to the wireless network Click Here for step by step Instructions on how to find the network key
First, check to make sure that you can get Internet through a wired connection, if you can't then wireless won't work either. Second, if you can, then try connecting to the wireless without using WEP or any security. You can turn this off by going to 192.168.1.1 in your web browser while wired to the router from your PC and go under wireless security. If you can connect from an unsecured access point then set up a WEP key with a pass-phrase and when you are asked for the pass-phrase from the PC use the the hex key 1 that is generated by the router instead of the pass-phrase. You should have no problem connecting. Thye wizard that comes on the configuration CD will not set up your wireless correctly, you really have to configure the system using the IP.
