Some cordless Dewalt drills do not have open motors allowing access to the brushes. However there are a few styles that do.

If you want to check, open your drill. Remove the screws from the housing. Then remove half of the housing. You can see the motor at the back of the tool. If there are vents at the back of the motor you may be able to see the brushes the removable type are connected to a gray or tan piece of plastic mounted at the back of the motor.

If the brushes are from a removable style you can purchase a brush set. If they are hidden in the motor. You will have to change the whole motor.

You can check the Dewalt Service Net web site to find out.

I have a dewalt 1/2 drill only used it once and it makes a knocking noise when using it. lost my receipt so can't return it, can you tell me what might be wrong with it . thanks

I'm pretty certain the brushes are loose and hitting against the armature. The brushes are held in place by a spring that looks like a ball point pen spring. The brushes are replaceable on that drill. I would take it to Lowe's or Home Depot and they should be able to provide brushes for it that you can replace yourself.

I want to change the brushes in my 18v xrp drill but not sure how to and which ones to buy? thanks

Without exact make and model number I can't tell you which brushes to get. 18V and XRP are usually associated with Dewalt model tools. The Dewalt brushes are located on the back of the motor inside the case. You have to remove the transmission from the front of the case, be extremely careful that no gears fall out when you seperate the trans from the case. The case has to be split to get at the brushes, replacement of the brushes is easy. When reassenbling make sure all wires are properly tucked away and don't get pinched and that the trans is put back on correctly.

Hi, I have a dewalt dc925 drill. When running the

They all do that a bit. The sparks when starting up and stopping are normal. If it has been used alot brushes may be a good idea but before they need to be changed it will spark quite a bit.

It will not hurt to inspect the amount of brush material remaining.

I have a DeWalt DW927 cordless drill. It's lost

the brush assembly slides out of the back of the motor. I suggest going to Dewaltservicenet.com and downloading a breakdown for this tool before starting. I don't think that the brushes are going to be your only problem though.

yes,the most coomon defect for poer tools are carbon brushes. But,git attention also to the gears, bushings, and bearings if there are loosen parts. Also you get rid to a debris or any small dirt particles that maybe sunctioned by the fan and has been entered in the body of the drill thats why you can hear an squealling noise..Just open and clean it.
