I have a Dell computer, I don't have the model number, I'm not at home right now. I got the computer online and I'm just trying to use it for the first time. I already owned the speakers, so I know they work. How would I find the sound card model number?

6 days ago my speakers were working fine. My brother did something to my comp because I couldn't even access the internet. Now I have messages stating "device not found" How do I download necessary drivers, controllers, and adapters so my speakers will work again? It will not let me adjust the volume at all and/or mute. I'm poor so a free site for downloads is the only option. HELP!

Try going to the control panel and see if you computer has a different program for the audio, it is not always windows as the default.

Do other speakers work with your computer? What about headphones? If control panel says there is no sound device, it is referring to the sound card inside your computer that you plug the speakers into. Make sure it is correctly installed. If you have any of the original CDs that came with the computer, see if you can reinstall the sound card drivers.

The sound card is actually a piece of hardware - it plugs into the motherboard, processes the sound, and gives you the input/output plugs where you would attach speakers, headphones, microphones, etc.

Some motherboards have onboard audio, where the "sound card" is not a separate part, but it is built into the motherboard itself.

If you've had speakers/sound from your computer in the past, most likely all the hardware is there - something is probably wrong with the driver (the information that tells windows how to use the sound card). Drivers can be downloaded, provided you know the model of the sound card you have.

    A couple questions:
When was the last time you got sound out of your computer?
What brand/model number is your computer?

The above website should give you links/instructions to download and install a sound card driver specific to your computer. The easiest way is probably looking it up by the service tag, which should be on a label somewhere on the computer.

If you have problems finding your service tag #, check out this link:

if you are having problems with your sound
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it

click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the

click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer

My speakers wont work. It shows no sound or audio on my computer. My daughter was playing with it and got into the control panel and deleted a bunch of things and now my speakers wont work.

She may have set the sound to mute or very low that's why you can't hear anything.
Just go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Device Properties and tinker with every possible option that she may have changed.

I can't get sound. I've hooked up the speakers, checked everything I know to check to make sure the sound is not muted, but still have no sound, such as attachments to e-mails with sound.

Here are the things to check:

1. Go to the control panel and open (click) on the sound and audio devices. Make sure the device volume is turned up. Make sure there is device for sound playback (see the info under the audio tab)

2. Also check your system icon in the control panel. Under hardware, then device manager make sure there are no yellow tags on the sound devices or other devices. If there are, you have a device failure of some sort, possibly an incorrect driver.

3. Make sure you have plugged in the speakers to the speaker output
typically it is the GREEN ringed hole on the audio card or motherboard.
