Sorry, but I am not seeing those screens.

    1. Control Panel

    2. Printer

    3. Properties

    4. Advanced

    5. Not seeing Paper Sizes or Size List

5a. I can see a long list on Device Settings, but Custom is not a choice.

    or

    1. Control Panel

    2. Printer

    3. Print Preferences

    4. Advanced

    5. Again, not seing Paper Sizes or Size List

5a. If I go to Features, Resizing Options, I see a Custom, but when I click on that it gives me the message "The custom paper size you have just defined will not become available for selection until you have exited and re-entered the Print Preferences/Properties."

    ???

    Thanks.

  • cwussow Apr 21, 2009

Redownloaded the software from HP and I am still not seeing the "custom sizes" you mention.

    Thanks.

  • cwussow Apr 21, 2009

I've tried Word, Quark, and InDesign.

And when I finally do see an opportunity to select "Custom" for size of paper, this message comes up.

"The custom paper size you have just defined will not become available for selection until you have exited and re-entered the Print Preferences/Properties."

Hi,
If you go to your printer properties, preferences or advanced, on the Main menu, is paper sizes,
click the little tab, look at the sizes list,
scroll to the bottom, and you will see.
Custom sizes by User, create your User Defined cusom size.

check your paper tray is setup correctly.

should be good now.

Richard.

Hi, sounds like you have a software problem there then,

Try to re-enter like it says, if you cannot enter it.this is a fault.

You have a software glitch, the programme is not functioning as it should do,

If you can update the software, update it, if not

    Re-install it.

Printing a custom size card with a C7280,

There is a workaround for this problem by tricking the printer.
The paper sensor, on my printer model hp4500 seems to only sense the paper at the beggining of the print job.
What I did to trick the printer to print on odd size paper is slide the paper adjuster to 8.5 and put a regular white sheet in. Then put your odd size paper under it. When you print your document set the number of copies to 2 and print. The printer is going to sense that the paper is correct, and start the job.
Here is the tricky part... once the first 8.5x11 sheet is almost all the way through quickly slide the paper adjuster over to match the size of your odd width paper. The printer should pick up the odd paper and print the second copy. Fool you printa! You should be able to do batches of odd paper size under the first 8.5X11. I hope this helps.

Canon mx850, paper jams when reloading for two sided copies. once the 1st side is printed the paper is released, recaptured and starts to feed back into the prt. 1/3 into the feed it jams, paper is...

Mel, this is what I found in the online manual:

Set the Ink Drying Wait Time longer.
Doing so gives the time enough to dry the printed surface so that paper curling and ink blots are prevented.

(1) Make sure that the machine is turned on.
(2) Open the printer properties dialog box.
See Opening the Printer Properties Dialog Box Directly from the Control Panel.
(3) Click the Maintenance tab and then Custom Settings.
(4) Drag the Ink Drying Wait Time slide bar to set the wait time, and then click Send.
(5) Confirm the message and click OK.

Make sure that the actual size of the paper is suitable for automatic duplex printing.
The sizes of media suitable for automatic duplex printing are A4, Letter, A5, B5, and 5" x 7".
Load paper of suitable size and then press the OK button.
Make sure that the Page Size or Paper size setting matches the actual size of the paper with a size suitable for automatic duplex printing.
First, check the Page Size or Paper size setting in the application software you are printing from.
Then, check the Page Size setting on the Page Setup sheet in the printer properties dialog box (Windows) or the Paper size setting on the Page Setup dialog box (Macintosh).
Note
Depending on the version of the application program, the automatic duplex printing may not be supported.
Make sure that the type of loaded paper is suitable for automatic duplex printing on the Main sheet (Windows) or the Quality & Media sheet on the Print dialog box (Macintosh).
Note
To switch to manual duplex printing, follow the procedure below.

Open the printer properties dialog box, clear the Automatic check box on the Page Setup sheet, and reprint.
When performing manual duplex printing, note the following.
If you are printing three or more pages of a document with manual duplex printing, one side of all sheets of paper will be printed first. Turn over the paper and reload the paper in the machine, and then the reverse side of all sheets of paper will be printed. Be careful not to change the order of paper in the stack.
The procedure for reversing the paper varies depending on the staple side and printing orientation. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Problem Printing Sheet Paper with the Epson 9800

On the machines control panel set to sheet fed (pressing the left button will change from Sheet, roll and roll with cut). In the print settings select your paper profile. On the page setup choose sheet. In the pull down menu you should only have basic paper sizes, no custom size. choose 20x30 and try again.

How to change paper size on axerox phaser 8500

From a Windows Operating System:
  1. From the computer, open the document to be printed within an application program.
  2. Click on [File] on the toolbar, and then click [Print]. The Print window will be displayed.
  3. Click on the [Properties] button, or the [Printing Preferences] button. The Properties or Printing Preferences window will be displayed.
  4. Click on the [Paper / Quality] tab.

NOTE: Most applications will automatically provide the page size information to the driver. If not, steps 8 - 10 describe how to create a custom page size.

  5. Select the required paper size from the Document Size pull down menu, if available.
  6. If the required custom paper size is not available click on the [My Customer Sizes…] button.
  7. To create a new custom paper size setting click on the [New] button.
  8. In the Name field enter the name to be given to the custom paper size. For example 127 mm x 394 mm (5 in. x 10 in.)
  9. In the Width field enter the width of the custom paper size.

NOTE: The width should always be the short edge of the paper. For example, if the custom size is 127 mm by 394 mm (5 inches by 10 inches), the width must be set to 127 mm (5 inches) regardless of the orientation of the document or the feed method on the printer.

  10. In the Height field enter the height of the custom paper size.

NOTE: The height should always be the long edge of the paper. For example, if the custom size is 127 mm by 394 mm (5 inches by 10 inches), the height must be set to 394 mm (10 inches) regardless of the orientation of the document or the feed method on the printer.

  11. Click on [Save]
  12. Click on [Close].
  13. Select the required paper size from the Document Size pull down menu.
  14. Click on [OK] twice to print
From a Mac OSx:
  1. Click on [File] on the application toolbar, and then click on [Page Setup]. The Page Setup window will be displayed.
  2. From the Printer Description pull-down menu, select the correct PPD file for your printer.
  3. Select the custom paper size for your document from the Paper Size pull-down menu.
  4. If the required custom paper size is not available click on the [Manage Custom Sizes…]. The Custom Page Sizes window will be displayed
  5. To create a new custom paper size setting click on the [+] button.
  6. Double click on [Untitled] and enter the name to be given to the custom paper size.
  7. At the Page Size field enter the width and height of the custom paper size.
  8. Click on [OK] twice.
