Sounds like timing may be off. Recheck your procedure. Did you change the timing belt?

I would start by putting crankshaft to the zero point on scale-TDC on the compression stroke. Crankshaft will be at zero, TDC, twice; on the compression stroke and on the exhaust stroke. To find the compression stroke, pull the spark plug on number 1, with finger over hole, turn crank by socket until you feel pressure against your finger. Now turn the crank (clockwise) until it is at the zero mark-TDC of compression stroke. Pull off the distributor cap-rotor should be pointing at number 1 plug wire tower-Is it?
If good so far, look for inspection rubber plug to check camshaft timing mark on cam sprocket, OR pull the valve cover off and check the number 1 cylinder camshaft lobes that open the valves-both lobes, intake and exhaust, should be away from the valves. Valves should both be closed on number 1.
Post back with what you find. Good luck.

Testimonial: "thanks for the help when I did the timming and I set the markers on all 3 sprockets set to how it tells me in the Haynes book I put it all back together just as it was and cranked it over im not the most experienced at this type of issue so if the timming is off it will shoot gas out of thetop of the intake ?"

Well, not sure about that, not necessarily. But it sure sounds like the intake valve may be open when it should be closed-when the piston is rising on the compression stroke, both valves must be closed. I was thinking maybe the piston is shooting the gas out because the intake valve is open. Just a hypothesis. Is this throttle body injected? Might try this: if you can find a vacuum gauge, put it on a manifold vacuum tap, watch the gauge while you are cranking the engine over-at cranking speed, vacuum should rise to about 5 inches on the gauge. If no vacuum or negative vacuum, something is definitely wrong. Check with a local mechanic-there may be a better test to find your problem. I think you may need to revisit the timing belt.

It could be the chrankshaft sensor or the egnition coils. check to make sure that your plugs are getting spark. Can be a lot of things but this is a place to start.

Check your fuses. Make sure the battery is good and the battery terminals are clean and the wires have no tears. Make sure your engine is getting gas. Spray gas or engine starter in the carb. If it starts for a second, it is a fuel problem. Either fuel pump, fuel pump fuse or relay, or clogged fuel filter. If this all checks out, you need to start looking at spark plugs, wires, distributor, cap, rotor. Check your timing belt and make sure it is not broke. It could be a cam sensor or crank sensor as well.

My 2003 dodge ram 1500 4.7 will not start i checked all of my spark plugs and all of them were wet smelled like gas what could be the problem ? im thinking its the fuel pressure regulator

easy to check the regulator. pull the vacuum hose off. If it's full of gas, the diaphram is torn. try cranking with the hose off to see if gas shoots out the regulator vacuum port. OK?

I have no spark in my 1987 honda accord i have replaced the coil and a new distributor also the main relay fuse is good as well as all the other fuses look good it turns over just fine seems to want to...

I would check the crank sensor located on the bell housing. This senses that the engine is turning and allows a spark to be produced. No sensor no spark.

My 1987 Dodge Raider has been in storage for 4 years. My problem is it will turn over but will not start. However if I pour a little gas down the carburator it cranks right up.Were do I start trouble...

If you know where the fuel line comes into the carburator, disconnect it and try to crank to see if there is fuel coming out, could be the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator or even the fuel pump itself, check the filter first. Good Luck.

I paid yesterday for my question i recieved about the 1987 dodge aries 2.2 motor k series didt recieve an answer? the car cranks up but dost start

Check to see if it's fire or fuel. Take one spark plug wire off and put on spare new plug, Place spark plug on engine where the tip is grounded against block and while someone trys to start car check to see if there is spark arcking between tip and insulator on plug. it,s best to do this in the dark. if it sparks, try putting a little gas in intake then try to start if it starts or trys to start, yo know it's a fuel problem. Change fuel filter first, f no change check fuel pump. If no spark check ballast resister on firewall or fender

Dodge 250 stalls whenever i stop or let off gas to turn

Check your fuel pressure, and EGR valve and sensor. Doesnt sound like a spark problem since it starts right back up. You can go to Kragen and check and get a fuel pressure test kit.
