Error code: 0c0040 000000a6 what is this?
Error code 0C0040 is caused by the drop detector not detecting drops from at least 2 print heads in the same area. Run print head recovery on all the print heads and see if that clears up the problem. If not, then clean or replace the drop detector. Drop detector can be ordered from: http://www.lpscomputer.com/p-2512-c6072-60179-designjet-5000-5500-drop-detector.aspx

HP does not specify what that error means. It says to contact HP Support. If the unit is in warranty, Hp will repair it, free of charge.

The printer has encountered a problem with an EIO card device in slot 1. Power off, remove the device from the slot and power on. If it comes up ready then refit the card and try again. if it still fails with the error recommend replacing the EIO device in that slot
SOURCE: how to reples belt HP Designjet 5500
Good luck finding HP ASP's anymore since HP jacked us all around in spring 09 and killed most of us off for not bowing to their extortionist methods to get sales up. Anyway I've been doing these since they came out, all I took was an online certification test before Hp started charging for them. Open book test, it's not a big deal but an amount of skill on Designjets and knowing how to properly use the service manual is necessary - Sheri is right that if you botch the job you'll botch the plotter.
To ajitkadam37if you want to see the procedures to replace the belt just download the manual. DONT get sucked into buying a pirated PDF from some schmoe on eBay. Go to Feedroller.com and down the left navigation bar near the bottom there's a place to go to the manuals. When you are there click HP then go to the Designjet area and find the 5000/5500 service manual. Once you have it you can see the procedure - even if you don't repair it yourself, you at least know in advance if a repair company is trying to jack you around and make it more expensive. Also check the HP Parts store for the list price on the belt - many dealers should be drug dealers with making parts 400% and higher than list. I'm all for making a living but damn some of these places are one step from scam artists (Sheri likely will agree that some of our colleagues are bandits). New belts usually last much longer than the old rubber and cord belts - the replacements are nylon and other synthetic materials. My 2002 DSJ 800PS got a belt in 2004 (I put it in when it was owned by the previous who was my client) as it was shredded and crumbling - the belt was the factory belt. The new HP belt made of synthetics is now 6 yrs since it was installed and still looks like new even running daily.
At least read up on the procedure and you can decide for yourself if you want to tackle the job, or let someone else do it for you.

you need more help come back.
