Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
My ps3 60g died so i bought a new one (80g). i have the old sata drive and i want to extract my pic, films and mp3s maybe even game saves).i hav an external plug n play usb shell,my pc will find it as a hard drive but it is not accessable and my new ps3 will recognise it, has anyone had any luck with this?
Put the sata drive in the new ps3, then offload the information onto an external discdrive through the settings menu. it is the back up option. then put the new drive back into the ps3, reconect the external drive, and go to settings, and i beleive it is called something like restore, and you can retreive the saved data from the external drive and put it on the new ps3 drive. hope that helped. please tell me if it did or not.

Tips for a great answer:

You have the infamous YLOD, aka. Yellow
Light of Death. This is the number 1 cause of pS3's dying. It is an
overheating issue linked to your CPU and GPU (the processor chips)
You will need to find a local PS3 repair shop who can repair this. Do
not try to attempt repairs seen on the internet yourself as some
would suggest. You could make things much worse and render the unit
totally unresponsive. The repair process takes about 3 hours.
IT CAN BE FIXED
IS THERE A DISC STUCK INSIDE?
If you have a unit that is not
backwards compatible, any non 60g or 80g then you can retrieve your
Power off the unit using the toggle switch on the back. Hold down the 'eject' button and turn the toggle switch back from off to on. This will run a fan test and eject your disc. Remember, this will only work on the 20, 40g models. Not the backwards compatible units with the 4 usb port holes and the memory card slots.
