There is an contact problem on the Mainboard of my Extensa 2900

When I press with my finger a little bit on the grafic card everything works. Otherwise the notebook doesen´t start. I have read that several other owners of this notebook have the same problem. Maybe the Motherboard can be repaired?
If anybody could help me I would be very happy!

Is the vid card a built in chip or is it in a slot? What is the model/make of the card, motherboard, and laptop? If its in a slot you may just need to snug it up. Also make sure that the backing on the under part of the card is not keeping it from making proper contact.

I have a casio pathfinder model 2273 and the light went out. I changed the batteries, but still no luck. Everything else seems to work just fine.

Hi Jennifer

Two possibiities here one is electronic, unlikely but possible, and one mechanical that you can check.

When you changed the batteries did you notice internally the location of the button that turns the back light on? If you pressed the light button, did the button or a spindle move forward towards the body of the watch? did you notice a contact? or nothing pressed against anything?

When changing the batteries you would have click open the battery holding frame. This frame or internal back plate has around the light button a little piece of metal, like a finger that gets pressed by the button towards a contact in the body of the watch. This finger suffers metal fatigue and quite often looses its springiness or snaps altogether and loses it ability to make contact between the frame and the EL plate that illuminates the back of the watch.
If you are missing this contact perhaps you could buy a replacement plate from Casio. Can not advise as to the costs of doing it yourself or sending it to Casio. It is fiddly job.
Hope this helps

1 bib long???????????????

This usually indicates that the mainboard is not able to detect the RAM in the RAM slots. In other words it is saying that there is no RAM installed in the mainboard.

What you can do is clean the RAM slots of dust with a vacuum cleaner and clean the gold finger contacts of the RAM modules with tissue paper.
Push the RAM modules in firmly in the the correct orientation. Notice the cut-out on the RAM modules, between the gold fingered connectors.

It might be possible that the RAM modules that you have currently installed in the system are faulty, in other words they have died. This could be a bit tricky and you may need a computer technician to try some known to be working RAM in your mainboard.

Clean out as much dust as you can from the system, it will help.

Take care!

Unpluged VGA cable now no display.

This is why it is never a good idea to SCREW in those little crown nuts from your cable to your VGA port. All connections on any PC should remain firmly connected, but unscrewed to prevent damage due to pulling, twisting or removing. All it takes to damage that VGA port is a single push to the wall from the front of your PC. If your VGA pins aren't touching on the board, and if there are no shorts, you can fix your problem by adding a Video card. Otherwise, you will need to de-solder and remove your on-board port completely and try again with the VGA card.

Screen flickering

That really depends on when it flickers, does it flicker when you move the display open or closed or when you press some part of the laptop?

If it happens when you press a part of the laptop, the display cable could be loose, thats unlikely.

I recently had a similiar problem with a toshiba laptop, the screen would flicker when pressed on the bottom left side of the laptop.

I checked the wires and they where fine, in the end I seem to have fixed the issue by pressing on the top cover where the issue happens and at the same time from the bottom from the same spot, what I did on that laptop, there was a cover that I could remove so I could press directly on the mainboard, pressing directly on the mainboard with my fingers and at the same time pressing down from the top seem to have fixed the problem on that laptop.

My daughter's acer extensa 5620z won't start. battery is charged, press power, does a couple of things then powers off, nothing displayed

hi

this is most likely a internal problem possibly with the mainboard. It would be best to contact your dealer or acer directly If you are on warranty.

If you are outside of warranty take the laptop to a local professional for testing.

I would try switching slots on the MB. I'd hate to think a new MB has bad slots, but I've seen it happen. You might also want to try the card in another computer that you know is working. If it works there, then you've got an MB problem, if it doesn't then I'd say the video is bad. Bea
