Question about Toshiba Satellite M35X-S111 Notebook

Toshiba Satellite M35X-S161 will not start up...lights come on but no power up???

This seems to be a common problem but I do not see a common answer. However, when I turn my laptop on the power button will light up and the LED's on the front will come on, but there is nothing on the screen (remains dark) the fan comes on but in 5 seconds or less the fan stops, the unit stops "booting" at that point and the leds's and blue power button remain on. Occasionally (maybe 1 out of 100 times) it will power up but it seems that the few times it did come on I moved it and it went of...but one of the times it was on I shook it a bit to try and determine if a loose wire was the cause and I figured it would cut off when I moved it but it did not????????? I am strapped here...out of warranty, no close service experts, nothing...any help would be A-1. thanks in advance-rick

Hi, Toshiba extended the warranty of the M35 till Nov. of this year for this same problem. If you just contact Toshiba support, they'll rplace the board no charge. I've had a few repaired. They only take a few days. Good luck,

Several model Toshibas had this problem includint M35X and M75X. There is a small power chip under the top cover bezel(above keyboard) that overheats and comes off the MB. Some say heating it will reseat the IC but others replace the board. It is a design flaw that is why Toshiba extended the warranty. Good Luck!

I have a toshiba Satellite M35X-S161 notebook. It needs a new hard drive. Do is use an IDE or SATA and how large can it be. It has a 60g now. Is it easy to change.

This will take any EIDE disk, read not SATA!! It is very simple to replace a disk. It is a challenge to reload the OS and the drivers. Before you start, make sure you have the recovery disks or an XP disk. In the process, all of your data will be lost unless it is backed up someplace.
If this answers your question, I'd appreciate 4 thumbs. I do this for fun and do not get paid.

My old laptop toshiba m35x-s161 won't turn on the light on the power botton turns on and it makes some noise but nothing more happens

Sounds like there is a faulty connection between the power switch and the computer. Probably why its making a little noise.
Take in for repair and replace power button.
