Question about Hardware & Accessories

I've packed gravel and sand on the basement floor, the edges have been trimmed with 3'' foamboard, before I lay the entire floor with 3'' foamboard I am caught between using a vapor barrier between the sand and foam... ? The floor will be getting radiant heat in the concrete, do you think a vapor barrier is neccesary? I've read conflicting ideas on this topic.... thanks

I would use the vapor barrier Unless you plan on taping all the seams and using care to not open them during the pour the foam will not act as a vapor barrier. I feel vapor barrier is critical an code in some areas.

Have a gravel driveway bought a Ariens 24 Snow Thro adjusted skid shoes to lift machine, is the scraper blade also adjustable, it is throwing a lot of rocks?

Yes, they are all adjustable. Loosen the hardware, Find something to use as a shim... a few paint can stirrers.. put them under the Scraper to lift it about 3/8" then tighten the hardware. See how that helps the stone throwing. Gravel driveways are tough for Blowers and Plows...It's best to actually leave snow on the driveway to pack down and form a Base. Then the next snow will be stone free.

Does my floor have to be level to put in tranquility click flooring over it?

Wood flooring manufactures state the floor must be level within 3/16" every 10 feet. That means if you have a straight edge at least 6 - 8 ft long and you lay the skinny edge on the floor and look for light under the edge that contacts the floor...or gaps, must not be greater than 3/16" if they are, a simple floor patch from Home Depot or Lowes that you trowel on will remedy those voids. You need to check for high spots as well by placing the straight edge on the floor and looking for a distinct rocking of the SE from the high side to the low side.

All this pertains to my experience with concrete slabs. If you have a wood subfloor let me know

Sand coming into pool from newly installed 220 hayward sand filter. It was recommended by the local pool distributor to add a 50 pound bag of gravel to the bottom and then 200 pounds of #20 sand. Should...

The problem was you didn't fill the tank with water or added the gravel to fast and now the lateral assembly is broken and letting sand into the pool. You'll need to empty the tank and replace the laterals. Add gravel slowly after you fill the tank half-way with water first.

What is the sand and cement mix ratio for a patio

Hello. The typical volume-ratio for a self-mix concrete in this application would be one part Portland cement to three parts sand. For a stronger pad (capable of higher stress loads) it would be as low as two parts sand, but this is not necessary for a standard patio pour. The gravel should be three parts, more will make it tougher to achieve a smooth finish. Re-cap: Portland cement - 1 part, sand - 2 or 3 parts, gravel - 3 parts. Hope this helped.

What does a simple rain guage consist of?

There are a variety of commercial rain gauges available on the market, however making a simple rain gauge is quick, easy and only costs as much as a plastic bottle. Chances are you already have everything you need to make this simple rain gauge, which is fun to construct, and interesting to use. Read on to learn how to make a simple rain gauge.

  1. Cut the top off of your plastic bottle. Cut about a quarter of the way down, to where the bottle begins to have a consistent diameter. Be careful to cut the edge as smoothly as possible, salvaging both pieces of the bottle.

  2. 2

Remove the bottle cap and turn the top part of the bottle upside down, placing it into the bottom part. Connect the two halves with paper clips.

  3. 3

Place the plastic bottle rain gauge in a location where it will easily collect rain without impediment from surrounding trees, plants or buildings.

  4. 4

Help your rain gauge stand upright by placing it in a sand or gravel filled bucket. Simply make a hole in the sand or gravel large enough that half the bottle gauge sits into the pit. Use the gravel or sand to support the edges of the bottle gauge.

  5. 5

Measure the amount of rain caught by your gauge by emptying the contents of the bottle rain gauge into a measuring cylinder.

How do I lay lino round the base of the toilet?

Mark out and cut the base of the bowl size, using a old Cornflakes packet is useful, cut the hole and behind the bowl part of the cardboard test piece cut to the edge in a straight line. The cardboard will now open (a bit like a keyring) and alow the cardboard cut out hole to be placed around the base of the toilet bowl. Trim it to fit perfectly.
When you have the exact size in you cardboard cornflakes packet, transfer the cut out on to your lino, cutting in a straight line at the rear of the lino where is will not be seen, to allow fitting over the bowl. Trim your lino edges and there you have it, lots of scrap cardboard but a professionally fitted lino floor covering.
I hope that helps.

How much sand does a hayward pro series sand filter require

A 24" (width of tank) is 300#
A30" is 350#
A36" is 700#
All are #20 silica and you can substute 3/8" pea gravel for up to 1/3 of sand in any of them. Rock goes in first then sand on top. This will improve your flow and extend the life of your sand.
