Dial won't turn To belt off position

its just very difficult to turn. I am a man and I find it difficult to turn the knob which involves stretching the belt. Not an easy thing to do.
But it is possible , but a lot of strength is needed.

It won't pick up

Almost certainly if your vacuum is otherwise operating correctly but not picking up it will be either a blockage or a broken belt. The belt is super easy to check, turn the machine on and put it in normal operating position and tilt the head so you can see the roller. If it is not spinning it is going to need a new belt.
The blockage is a different matter and you will need to test suction at the hose, then the front to figure out where the obstruction is to be able to remove it. If you need more help please provide the model and make of your vacuum.

A cloth belt got wrapped around the roll and after taking the roll off and getting the belt off of it, now the roll won't turn when I turn the vacuum on.

Install new belt. You'll have to remove the botton cover and the remove the brush cylinder and install new bell. What happen when the brush cylinder stop because of the colth belt, it stripped the rubber kogs off the belt. The only thing that turns on your Dyson is the motor. GB...stewbison

How do you change a belt on a dyson DC07

Turn vacuum over so you can see the brush.
Using a standard screwdriver, undo the three fasteners just behind the brush.
Remove the base plate.
Remove the belt.
Remove roller brush.
Place new belt on roller brush and center it in position.
Feed belt through the hole, and return brush to position.
Ensure the brush ends are located in the slots correctly.
Pull the belt over the motor shaft.
Rotate the brush a few times to ensure belt is centered and secure.
Replace the base plate, tighten fasteners, and rotate the brush a few more times to make sure it turns properly and the belt isn't caught.

I have no owners manual and need to replace the belt on a Hoover powermax model #:U5242-930 can you help thanks Bab

I don't see this unit on the Hoover support site. However other Powermax vacuums come up in the search for manuals: .

Most of the units have very similar belt replacement procedures. First unplug the vacuum. Then press the handle release lever and place the handle in the low position. Next remove the hood by turning the two slots either side of the hood with a coin. Rotate the hood towards the front of the unit and remove it. Then remove the agitator brush roll and the old belt. Discard the old belt.

With the lettering to the outside, slide the new belt over the motor pulley. (The old belt should have been on the pulley. If the belt broke and isn't in place, look for it on the right as you look at the front of the vacuum above the agitator brush roller's position.) Slide the agitator brush roller through the belt and place the belt in the belt guide on the roller. Grasp the agitator and put it into position. Fit it into the rectangular slot on the left. Then pull it into position on the right side of the vacuum. Check if the agitator and the belt turn freely and that the belt isn't pinched between the agitator and the bottom of the unit. Replace the hood by aligning the tabs with the slots on the base. Then turn the coin slots to secure the hood.

I hope this helps.

Eureka Boss - Belt is not broke but brush will not turn. I have already turned it over - checked belt - and pushed the reset button.

The belt may look fine but they can still be stretched or worn and it won' turn the brush. Try changing the belt and see what it does. You can get Eureka belts here:

Can not put the head on so the belt will stay on

make sure the belt is position in the middle before u put the head on . hook the belt on by turning it to red. its easier when u put the height adjuster all the way up. slid the head straight onto the front. and lift the back so it goes over the ledge. and then pull the lock down to secure. amke sure the safetly switch is activated. then turn it to green. when u turn the kirby on if the green light is greena dn not off or dim or on and off. then u put the belt on correctly. if green light is not on . try again .. it comes with practise. once u get the hang of it .. its pretty easy

Broken belt, motor won’t turn

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. If the motor shaft won’t turn then you may have a bad motor or a stick carbon brush, but if it is just the belt the replace the belt with a genuine belt because the average belt change id every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning and to store the extra belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator. But you question does not tell me what brand name and model # it is so I have a hard time to diagnose the problem for you so my explanation if just a generic one and should work for you but next time please note the brand name and model #. If you have further problems please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or call the Kirby cust serv dept listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
